No one tried the trivia question, I must be very old.

For the CBC broadcast of the 1982 World Cup, Don Chevrier acted as wing man for Sir Stanley Matthews.

Norwich relegated as they fell 0-4 to "Wet Spam" lol.

And not to jinx things, but the EPL organizers have done a great job so far with only 3 rounds and change to go.

Players energy level since re-start has been pretty good as well, and……..as a bonus, very little ‘simulation’ (aka falling down in apparent agony at the hint of player/player contact). Norwich relegation was probably a given from the get go, too bad really, they try to play attractive footy.

In case no one noticed, my beloved Burnley today held ‘Bin Dippers’ to a 1-1 draw at their place, thanks to another magnificent effort from our goalie Nick Pope. I can’t get the smile off my face. :D

Way too young for that one.
Understood, I'm a bald old fart. I was just starting my 20's with the 1982 WC. I didn't know who Matthews was at the time, Chevrier didn't let his ego get in the way. I still remember the broadcast. Since he fits the bill as English Football's Gordie Howe, I figured most EPL fans would know who he is.

First WC for me was 86 but I really got into it from Italia 90, I was 11. LOL

Sir Stanley came into my workplace in Burlington right around that time and I looked after him.

Sadly, I did not know who he was at that time. He was a real gentleman, heaping praise on me as he was leaving.

Best news of the day is that City won their appeal and will now be in 2021 Champions League.

FFP was a joke anyway, mid level clubs got punished while blood money clubs spent way beyond their revenue streams. Example, Man City's revenue stream is only 3/4 the size of Juventus. Ac Milan opted out of European competition rather than pay the fine by selling some of their top prospects. That's not good for Europe, Milan are resurgent, they will win the scudetto in 2021. Man City are now preparing a double swoop, they will pay Napoli $77 million for Koulibaly and exercise the $86 million buyout clause on Lautaro. Their way of saying "fuck you wankers" to UEFA.

Alex Ferguson was appointed Man Utd manager in 1986. He continued a run of futility without a league title which stretched for 25 years to 1992. That year, he convinced bitter rivals Leeds United to give him one Eric Cantona for almost nothing. Leeds considered Cantona a trouble maker. The rest, as they say, is English football history.

With just that one addition, Man Utd won the Premier League in 1992 and 4 out of 5 of the next titles. Cantona's swashbuckling indomitable style of play permeated the whole team and turned the team into the force it became for the rest of Ferguson's tenure as manager. And yet, you get some who argue that players who amass statistics without turning the fortunes of a team are more valuable than a critical difference maker like Cantona. But that is for another thread.

Like the curse that befell the Red Sox for allowing Babe Ruth to jump to the Bronx, Leeds United was relegated to the championship where they languished for 16 years. That curse has finally been lifted as Leeds United gained automatic promotion to the Premier League today. Hope they have learned their bitter lesson.
With just one man? Uhh so Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Solskjaer, Keane and company were just ornaments I guess ?

The last time Ac Milan won the scudetto, Ibra and Gennarino were part of the club. Since then they became soft, having endured an almost decade long drought without silverware.

Selling Romagnioli to Milan is the worst move Roma ever made.

And in more important news. My beloved Burnley beat 9 men Norwich in a lackluster 2-0 win today to cement a top 10 finish for the lads. Brilliant, just brilliant. If final games go as expected, we'll miss qualifying for a Europa League spot ;)

Looks like Norwich and Bournemouth are set to go down. Will it be Aston Villa or Watford to join them in the Championship Division? More likely Aston Villa as Watford are a team that could spring a few surprises in their last two matches, after they were well beaten by West Ham. They take on Man City who are not in the mood to drop any points, while Aston Villa have to battle Arsenal.

Leeds has been promoted. They used to be one of the top English teams a few decades ago.

Also, Leicester did themselves no favours when they really got thumped by Spuds. They have to now battle Man Utd for a spot in the European Champions League. Otherwise, their fate depends on Man City and Chelsea doing them some favours if they win the ECL Cup.

I'm surprised that the Birmingham clubs have sunk so low. Ozzy and Tony aren't happy, they are from Aston.

After looking at the map of Birmingham, I now know where the semi-fictional Peaky Blinders took place.

Let us see whether de Gea can redeem himself on Wednesday. It is a must win for ManU against a relegation threatened team such as West Ham, if they want to guarantee their European Champions League spot.
West Ham have been pulling off some wins to all but assure their status in the Premier Division.

De Gea's been a disaster most of this season, for some reason his confidence has gone walkabout, never mind, his reported 250,000 quid/week salary may ease the pain. Unfortunately Wet Spam are safe, far superior goal difference over Villans, the only team who can reach Spams points total.

West Ham are in the clear as it is Watford who are not safe as yet, and if they lose their last two games, then Villa could sneak past them. Remember that Watford have a very huge hurdle in their next match, versus Man City and then Arsenal in their final game. Bournemouth have just one game left, for an outside chance to stay up. But I think that they are very likely to join Norwich in the Championship Division. However, West ham versus Villa in the final match will be a huge one.

Liverpool are crowned as the Official Champions for globally the most watched and popular sporting competition.
Big games on Sunday to sew up the European Champions League spots with the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Leicester battling for it to join Man City and Liverpool.
For the Europa Cup it will be Wolves if they win, and if Arsenal win the FA Cup, then they will take that spot, otherwise, it will go to Tottenham.
Relegation Battle, among three teams. Aston Villa, Watford and Bournemouth with an outside chance to stay up. Villa play West Ham, Watford take on Arsenal and Bournemouth a do or die win needed against Everton. Edie Howe's team has to win, and then only hope that West Ham and Arsenal demolish their fellow strugglers Aston Villa and Watford!
Very interesting finale to the season.
