Link where that is established? I heard it claimed that Signal was already installed on their devices, but that doesn't mean they were told it was okay to use for these types of communications.

I'm sure they were supplied with standard email too, but the morons seemed to know enough not to use that.

Been in use long before this administration.

Ummm…No

“A Department of Defense memo from 2023 under the Biden administration detailed that while Signal was approved for some use by government officials, they could not use the platform to "access, transmit, process non-public DoD information."

This paragraph makes no sense. Try checking your grammar an re-writing it.

None of us know the secret platforms the government uses to communicate classified info, including the Trump administration apparently.
Apparently they don't. That's the point. Signal became a go to App. Think about it. If there was a dedicated cabinet lvl system, that is the one they would use. But Signal was used by the previous admin as well. And we have no idea what they transmitted either on it.

It's just they at least were smart enough not to include reporters. Or the reporters never reported if they were.

Email was in use before this administration. Paper notepads and whiteboards were in use before this administration. Doesn't mean they can use them inappropriately for sensitive data.

You are reaching conclusions about the approved uses of Signal without evidence. To me, that document warns them on how to properly use Signal and avoid less secure alternatives if they really are using a messenger app.

There is no way that they don't have other policies that restrict what channels or storage they approve for different levels of information classification.

That is InfoSec 101, familiar in any org dealing with confidential data. That is where the DOD memo comes in and says channels like Signal are not approved for non-public information.

A Department of Defense memo from 2023 under the Biden administration detailed that while Signal was approved for some use by government officials, they could not use the platform to "access, transmit, process non-public DoD information." CISA's guidance related to Signal was released after the Department of Defense guidance.

"[Jeffrey Goldberg] is an anti-Trump hater; he is a registered Democrat. Goldberg’s wife is also a registered Democrat and a big Democrat donor who used to work under who? Hillary Clinton. This is the same Jeffrey Goldberg who infamously lied about weapons of mass destruction to get us into the Iraq War."

BTW this is Hegseth's third strike in 2 months in the gig.
First was blurting out the negotiating position on Ukraine where he acknowledged Russia can keep everything it invaded/stole.
Second was his inviting Elon to brief him on attack plans for China.
Third is this fiasco.

Every other SecDef in USA history was a substantial, well read and respected man who had experience running large complicated agencies either in government or the private sector.

It seems to me that there was no problem with the platform. Signal did not get breached. The idiot, inexperienced trump appointees sent the message to an outsider. There was the problem.

JUST IN: Karoline Leavitt announced Elon Musk and his team will be investigating how a fake news reporter was added to the Signal group “Elon Musk has offered to put his technical experts on this… to ensure it never happens again.” If this was a setup, Elon’s about to blow it WIDE OPEN.

Lol. I understand humans. That warning was put out BECAUSE THEY WERE USING IT FOR TRANSMISSION OF CLASSIFIED INFO. They wouldn't have felt the need to otherwise.

That's the way humans work. And they tend to ignore warnings too.
