No, no. I'm a fan of Mathews. I just put the stat out there for consideration. I was surprised.

It has happened time and again in the NHL, with their “ best player “ out, everyone else on the team elevates their play and plays with more focus. Hockey is truly “ team sports “. That’s why balance is so important.

If we want to talk about the greatest Leaf goal-scorer of all-time. Matthews is 8 back of Ron Ellis, 41 back of Dave Keon, 65 back of Daryl Sittler, and 96 back of Sundin for Leaf all-time goals. Matthews will pass Ellis and maybe Keon this season and Sittler next season, and maybe Sundin next season too, if not then the season after that. Matthews will likely have 500 goals at around 800 games, no Leaf has ever scored 500 career goals.
