It was an embarrassing loss but it didn’t tell me anything that I didn’t already know about this team. In the grand scheme of things there’s no worry about the Leafs’ playoff chances. They’ll make it barring an act of God.
I‘m just curious to see what moves if any Treliving will make to improve the goaltending and defence for the playoffs. Without further additions, there’s still hopes that Woll when he comes back, and Jones can provide better goaltending but if Samsonov is the starting goaltender then there’s no hope for them to go far.
I think Treliving has done a good job in upgrading the bottom pairing guys. McCabe and Rielly have played reasonably well. The one guy that I have concern with is Brodie. He’s a “steady” d man and doesn’t make many glaring mistakes; but for a $5m player I expect more. He’s not particularly strong or physical. He doesn’t contribute much offensively either. I just don’t think the Leafs are getting good value per dollar from his performance.
