If they voted for Trump they were stupid enough to elect an insane asshole criminal who lies all the time and changes his policies every other day. He is a dictator who thinks him and Putin can enslave the world.
@WyattEarp won't fall for that. He still thinks there is political wisdom and logic behind Trump being in power. He is very knowledgeable about history, economics, and politics. That's why he always bring interesting and well written post here. But he's not at all a believer in sociology.

About half of the US is filled with greedy, racist maga prick, who, for the most part, have never set a foot outside the US. They still think they can rule the world. Trump is waking up the world right now. And it will be ugly.

Tariff War Risks Sinking World Into New Great Depression, International Chamber of Commerce Warns

The world economy could face a crash similar to the Great Depression of the 1930s unless the U.S. rows back on its plans to impose steep tariffs on imports, a senior official at the International Chamber of Commerce warned.

“Our deep concern is that this could be the start of a downward spiral that puts us in 1930s trade-war territory,” said Andrew Wilson, deputy secretary-general of the ICC, which promotes global business and trade. High tariffs on foreign goods imported into the U.S. in that decade contributed to a damaging global recession. The downturn plunged nearly a third of the global workforce into unemployment and slashed production at heavyweight industrial economies Germany and the U.S. by half, according to research from the International Monetary Fund.

The likelihood of a similarly severe blow to the global economy is high, Wilson said in an interview Tuesday. “Right now it’s a coin-flip,” he said. “It comes down to whether the U.S. administration is willing to rethink the utility of tariffs.”

I bought a shitload of Boeing stock yesterday at $159/share
Interesting play Phil.

The company was taken over by bean counters years back and they haven't been able to control their component suppliers.
However, they'll figure it out. The U.S. government and the major airlines want a strong Boeing.

I think it is likely Boing will recover, because it is an important player in the military industrial complex.
But China is just entering the commercial airline business with large body long haul aircrafts C929. I suspect BRICS countries will buy Chinese. The commercial business will have 3 players.

Good point.

You know Brazil also makes planes so it will be interesting to see how everyone gets along.

As far as Chinese competition, it might cement further protectionism in the U.S. and Europe (Airbus).

Jalimon, if you follow my posts I try to post on one issue at a time and develop my opinion based on following a situation over decades. Most of these opinions pre-date Trump's rise. Many members merely react to events as if history began in 2016.

I generally don't like all these sweeping platitudes. Social media is going nuts with the self-identified "resistance" fighting every concept or word that Trump puts out there. Many can lose sight of the specifics affecting Americans. I guess another way to describe it is to say U.S. political campaigns never end now. Social media and mass media work hand in hand to make that the reality.

Anyway, Canadians have a big decision this year. After ten years of Trudeau's Administration, you have to decide if a change is necessary. Strangely, I think friction with Trump might make the Liberals a more sympathetic choice. However, I tend to think Canadian voters like Americans vote with their pocket books which might be something you find too cynical.

If this were true, we'd never have a conservative prime minister again.

Look at the explosion of GDP under Chretien, and how Harper immediately stalls, then reverses the growth.

Trudeau undid Harpers harm, got stymied by COVID, and has recovered again.

Canadians are fighting back against Trump’s tariffs
Banning booze isnt really going to hurt the Americans.

What will hurt them is a stock market crash, negative GDP, sinking dollar, layoffs, inflation, and higher gas prices.
If Trump keeps this up he'll lose the midterm elections in a landslide

I agree, it's a mosquito bite on a hippo but it's a statement. Canada alone cannot beat the US in a trade war, it will have to be Canada, Mexico, China and the EU counter-tariffing them til they cry like a baby hippo.

Although Canada and Mexico together can do quite a bit of damage.

It’s gotta be death from a thousand cuts for them to feel it. BC is gonna start taxing American cars and trucks crossing to Alaska. Travel to US is down which could cost them 14k jobs and $20b or more. No more US booze. We need to follow through on the energy tariffs though, just to show them we’re not playing around with this month to month BS.

Maybe I spoke too soon. The Americans are reacting...

They are really going to feel it if Canada, Mexico, the 27 EU countries and China decide to gang up on the US by boycotting US made products.
I think we could actually win this trade war if/when that happens.

There's a poll in todays Dutch AD newspaper. Around 90% of Dutchies plan on boycotting US products either completely, or partially.
Link: https://www.ad.nl/binnenland/boycot...dvaardig-maar-is-dat-wel-verstandig~afd094cc/

You have to be careful with boycotts that you dont hurt local businesses though.
If you boycott US owned Tim Hortons, you could seriously hurt that franchise and put employees out of business

I was listening to Ben Mulroney last week regarding the Liberal surge in the polls, and he reminded the audience (and me) that in 1984, John Turner
held a comfortable lead going into the election as the new Liberal voice and then got trounced by none other than his father.
He wasn't bragging, just a good observation.
The parallels between Turner's and Carney's assent are eerily similar.
Both giants in finance but very weak as political personalities, and heavily weighed down by their predecessors.
Ironically, Turner took over from Pierre and it looks like Carney's taking over from Justin.

If Americans would vote with their pocket books, and if they were wise, they would vote for the democrats. The democrats have done far better since Reagan. The reason is purely social.

A good economy likes stability. You invest when you don't hear about your potus every fucking day in the news.

The truth is about half of Americans are racist, greedy pricks who do not care about anything else but destroying the libs...
