IMHO, Marner is the problem, because Marner is totally useless in the playoffs!!
What did the other 4 do. I didn't see much from them either other than 2 good games from Nylander. Marner career wise in the playoffs has been better than the rest. And unlike Nylander can play defence.

Nylander missed 3 games so hard to score when you're not on skates.
Marner had skates on all 7 games and no reports of playing with any injury.

Nylander 3 goals in 4 games. That's a 62 goal regular season pace and this he did in the playoffs. That was a weak attempt to bash Nylander. Could you tell me in the history of the NHL a player who scores in each and every playoff game he plays in.

Nylander's cap hit this season was under 7 mill.
Marner's cap hit was just under 11 mill.
That's a 4 mill difference so if you're tyring to compare playoff performances between the 2 you gotta factor in Marner has to be 4 mill better just to break even.

I think Marner will play out the season with Toronto not wave his no trade clause , Then he will go to any team HE wants to play for.Not let Toronto send him anywhere

If I were him I'd do the exact same thing. Or better yet. Allow the Leafs to offer him to every team and waive it for the team that offers them the least. Then hit free agency after that.

Who cares now because Nylander's cap hit will be $600k more than Marner's this season and 7 seasons after and soon enough the trade Nylander signs will be popping up at Scotia Bank arena

Wow he scored 3 goals in a 4 game span and you act like he's Wayne Gretzky. He didn't score 62 goals in the regular season. I'm not attacking Willy I'm defending Marner. Many have scored a shit ton of goals in the playoffs. Those same player have also advanced past the first round. By the way. Marner scored in his first career playoff game.

No question Nylander had a very good 2024 playoffs, much better than Marner in the 4 games he played. That however did not translate into team success.

Let’s take a look at the 2023 playoffs, the only year the team won a first round playoff series with this core , Marner led the team with 14 points in 11 games and a plus 7. Nylander had 10 points and Minus 4.

I’m not here to bash Nylander, in fact I like the maturity he’s shown and I hope he can keep the great performance in the years to come, but I just find it ridiculous for those who are so desperate to drive him out of town just because he had a bad playoff this year. It’s even more ridiculous for those who suggest that “Marner always sucks in playoffs “ when he’s the overall points leader among this core.

Who knows who will have a better playoff next year, I just hope it’s not Marner playing for another team that knock us out.

They beat TB because they won 3 OT games.
They lost to Boston because of 1 OT goal in game 7.
Same way Florida beat Boston last season because of 1 OT goal in game 7.

The problem with Marner is that he's never scored a big goal in game 7, or in any other Leaf playoff clinching game, in all the yrs he's been with the Leafs. IMHO, the Leafs would be crazy to sign Marner to an 8 yr contract extension etc

Hopefully, the Leafs can some how trade Marner this off season, before he leaves the Leafs next summer, and the Leafs get nothing in return!!
Nylander for those who like to conveniently forget scored the go ahead goal in game 7 that gave the Leafs the lead in the 3rd period !!!

Is there any doubt that with a healthy , Nylander , Matthews, Marner and Woll that the leafs don't advance?

They ran into a hot goalie. It was the main reason why Florida went to the finals last year. But all three were healthy is past years and still didn't advance.

To find fault is easy. Had they not had those points from Marner in all the playoffs, they might not even make it to game 7. I’ve been told that this is a team game but now it seems Marner haters like you are putting all the team failures on this one guy.

If there’s one individual who’s most responsible for the repeated playoff failures, I’d say it’s Shanahan because he’s the guy who hired Dubas and between the two they came up with the idea that they could win with half of their cap space tied up in the core four. To further ensure failure they hired an AHL coach with no NHL coaching experience.

Im not at all against trading Marner if they can get something valuable before losing him to free agency, but they won’t get anyone who can consistently produce a point a game. Without Marner, I’m not so sure if this team is in a better position to make it to a game 7 next year.

Leafs 2024 playoff goals:

Nylander 3 in 4 games
Knies 2 in 7 games
Matthews 1 in 5 games
6 players 1 in 7 games
zippo for every other Leafs player

I think Marner's greatest and most damning critics are not TERBites, or analysts or coaching staff or bloggers or professional writers. but they are the ones who sit beside him on the bench. When they call him out during a game and his reaction is to throw a tantrum, and then later when he doesn't get the message and still coasts up the ice and lets the series winning scorer blow right by him (and Marner has decent speed), that was it for me. I was a fan of his and his talent but now I want him gone. They can get someone a little less talented but who actually tries and for a lot less money. Players can have bad days and prolonged slumps and bad luck, but there is absolutely ZERO EXCUSE for a lack of effort, especially in the playoffs. Guaranteed his weak play had a negative impact not just on the ice but also on the team at large and the team chemistry.

He showed us who he really is and we should believe him. And with all due respect you smuddan, I think you should believe him as well.
