Nylander 3 goals in 4 games. That's a 62 goal regular season pace and this he did in the playoffs. That was a weak attempt to bash Nylander. Could you tell me in the history of the NHL a player who scores in each and every playoff game he plays in.
Wow he scored 3 goals in a 4 game span and you act like he's Wayne Gretzky. He didn't score 62 goals in the regular season. I'm not attacking Willy I'm defending Marner. Many have scored a shit ton of goals in the playoffs. Those same player have also advanced past the first round. By the way. Marner scored in his first career playoff game.

No question Nylander had a very good 2024 playoffs, much better than Marner in the 4 games he played. That however did not translate into team success.

Let’s take a look at the 2023 playoffs, the only year the team won a first round playoff series with this core , Marner led the team with 14 points in 11 games and a plus 7. Nylander had 10 points and Minus 4.

I’m not here to bash Nylander, in fact I like the maturity he’s shown and I hope he can keep the great performance in the years to come, but I just find it ridiculous for those who are so desperate to drive him out of town just because he had a bad playoff this year. It’s even more ridiculous for those who suggest that “Marner always sucks in playoffs “ when he’s the overall points leader among this core.

Who knows who will have a better playoff next year, I just hope it’s not Marner playing for another team that knock us out.

They beat TB because they won 3 OT games.
They lost to Boston because of 1 OT goal in game 7.
Same way Florida beat Boston last season because of 1 OT goal in game 7.

The problem with Marner is that he's never scored a big goal in game 7, or in any other Leaf playoff clinching game, in all the yrs he's been with the Leafs. IMHO, the Leafs would be crazy to sign Marner to an 8 yr contract extension etc

Hopefully, the Leafs can some how trade Marner this off season, before he leaves the Leafs next summer, and the Leafs get nothing in return!!

Nylander for those who like to conveniently forget scored the go ahead goal in game 7 that gave the Leafs the lead in the 3rd period !!!

Is there any doubt that with a healthy , Nylander , Matthews, Marner and Woll that the leafs don't advance?
They ran into a hot goalie. It was the main reason why Florida went to the finals last year. But all three were healthy is past years and still didn't advance.

To find fault is easy. Had they not had those points from Marner in all the playoffs, they might not even make it to game 7. I’ve been told that this is a team game but now it seems Marner haters like you are putting all the team failures on this one guy.

If there’s one individual who’s most responsible for the repeated playoff failures, I’d say it’s Shanahan because he’s the guy who hired Dubas and between the two they came up with the idea that they could win with half of their cap space tied up in the core four. To further ensure failure they hired an AHL coach with no NHL coaching experience.

Im not at all against trading Marner if they can get something valuable before losing him to free agency, but they won’t get anyone who can consistently produce a point a game. Without Marner, I’m not so sure if this team is in a better position to make it to a game 7 next year.

When somebody exaggerates that much they lose credibility. Try staying in the realm of reality, for your own benefit.

I think Marner's greatest and most damning critics are not TERBites, or analysts or coaching staff or bloggers or professional writers. but they are the ones who sit beside him on the bench. When they call him out during a game and his reaction is to throw a tantrum, and then later when he doesn't get the message and still coasts up the ice and lets the series winning scorer blow right by him (and Marner has decent speed), that was it for me. I was a fan of his and his talent but now I want him gone. They can get someone a little less talented but who actually tries and for a lot less money. Players can have bad days and prolonged slumps and bad luck, but there is absolutely ZERO EXCUSE for a lack of effort, especially in the playoffs. Guaranteed his weak play had a negative impact not just on the ice but also on the team at large and the team chemistry.

He showed us who he really is and we should believe him. And with all due respect you smuddan, I think you should believe him as well.

Watching the playoffs this year proves exactly how marginal the Leaf team is, they could never compete against Florida or NYR.
The team was handcuffed by committing so much of its salary to the core 4. Marner is a great player but has no ability to compete in the war that leads to the Stanley cup.

Tavares/Marner/Matthews combined over 33 million cap hit 3 goals in 19 games
Nylander under 7 mill cap hit 3 goals in 4 games
yet someone took this opportunity to bash Nylander and question why he didn't score in each and every game including those he didn't play in ... brilliant !!!

This is just beating a dead horse trying to debate who’s more responsible for the series losing goal but since you brought it up again, I’ll reluctantly oblige.

Kelly Hrudy, the former nhl goalie and the expert who you liked to quote to support your points of view, made the analysis that Samsonov should have gone out to play the dump in and he was sure that Samsonov would have gotten to the puck first. My not so professional view was that Rielly the d man should never have been beaten so cleanly on a dump in on his side. Marner got caught looking at the puck carrier. All three players deserve to be held responsible but Marner got singled out.

No doubt it was a bad playoff for Marner, and anytime a player plays bad it’s so easy to accuse him of a lack of effort. When Nylander had his bad days, i don’t think I had ever read any criticism from you of a lack of effort. Did Marner play bad because he was not putting out the effort ? I don’t think so and this is where you and I will agree to disagree.

There are times players would get praised for showing emotions, often interpreted as “ a desire to win”, but other times like in this case, haters would use that to criticize. There was some kind of disagreement among Matthews, Marner and Nylander as we all saw, and it wasn’t the first time that had happened among teammates, but but what evidence do you have that “ he was called out” by those sitting on the bench ? Did you hear what exactly the conversations were ? Please enlighten me if you have inside Information.

I am not making any comparison. I am only talking about Marner's effort and Marner's alone. Are you denying that he was just dogging it on the winning goal? Do you think that he gave a total effort? What anybody else did did not affect how hard Marner tried.

Kelly Hrudy, the former nhl goalie and the expert who you liked to quote to support your points of view,
I don't recall using any quotes from Hrudey. And Hrudey is not the only person who criticized Marner. Even if Samsonov or Rielly also made mistakes that does not change that Marner is the only one that got called out by his teammates on the bench for providing a poor effort even before that goal and that Marner also did not care enough about giving a good effort on that goal as well.

Because his was the only one whose mistake was not trying hard enough. Players make all kinds of mistakes in the heat of the moment but there is never any excuse for dogging it, especially when so much is on the line.

No doubt it was a bad playoff for Marner, and anytime a player plays bad it’s so easy to accuse him of a lack of effort.
Sorry, you missed my point. It was his teammates that called him out and accused him of a lack of effort. Are you saying that of all people that they don't have that right?

I was repeating what was reported. I believe that they have evidence to support what they reported. Go question them.

Again, this is your speculation, or you’re just repeating someone else’s speculation.

again, anytime a player missed an assignment, it’s easy to question the effort. where‘s the effort on Rielly‘s part allowing Pastrnak to get to the puck first when he’s at least a few feet closer ? Where’s the effort from Samsonov making no attempt to get to the puck first ? Marner’s mistake was puck watching and did not read the play well. Nothing to do with effort IMO. He was already under tremendous pressure for not having played well and on the verge of going into his contract year, I see no reason why he would not put out the effort. Any assumption of a lack of effort is totally subjective and used as tool to attack him.

I believe I have addressed all your other comments with the above.

I recall all the the fans were Nylander haters when he held out for his first contract. Now they love him and hate Marner.

I'd say in Samsonov's case he knows how fast Pasternak is and though staying back was the better decision. had he chased the puck and missed the fans would be bitch he should've stayed in his crease.
