The pressure is on Boston, They lose to the Leafs which would be two 1st round exits in a row, will the Bruins be labeled as chokers? Yes, they chocked last year.
My response : ‘ I happen to think that the pressure is even higher on the Leafs. If they fail to advance pass the first round for the fourth time in five years, there’ll be calls for breakup of the core. There’ll be a lot of criticism on Keefe, and perhaps on Shanahan too “

This is exactly what‘s happening now. Fans are chanting :

WE WANT MARNER TRADED

WE WANT KEEFE FIRED

From the same fans who chanted. “ WE WANT FLORIDA”

The problem is that Marner has underperformed in every playoff series that the Leafs have participated in, in the last 7 years!!
Compared to the other 3 he has been great. This series he was shit but Nylander wasn't very good his first few playoff series either.

Nylander's first few seasons were on entry level contract. This is not Marner's first few years. It's his 8th playoffs.
Marner also makes 4 million more than Nylander or does salary in a cap era not matter.

I know but he's still dealing with an injury and other than this playoff series he's been pretty good in the playoffs. You forget he got his extension after a good playoff series against the Bruins years ago.

No, I didn't forget. I'm not the one who said he's been shit EVERY playoffs. You're trying to justify Marner's playoff play by comparing him to Nylander. I'm merely pointing out that you're comparing playoff performance between an 11 million player and a 7 million player. Marner's next contract will be even higher.

But it's when he got his extension. He wanted $9 million in the off season and Dubas said no. Then he had a break out years and played well in the playoffs and the number went up. Same with Nylander demanding $10 prior to the season and then has a big year and gets $11.5.

I honestly don't know what the answer is to the Leafs issues, but I think the anti-Marner crowd is going to rue the day if they trade him. He's one of the most talented home-grown Leafs since....well, maybe Sittler, Wendel Clark, Russ Courtnall or Vincent Damphouse? I mean, what can you get in return for a stud like him? I know, his playoffs aren't great....but he's the straw that stirs the drink. And, I think he probably was still injured from the high ankle sprain....

On that note, I'd love to know what the fuck hit Nylander in the first three games, and the illness/injury that hit Matthews in games 4-6....

ok so you're comparing a 9 million player to a 7 million player. Nylander was at 7 million and still everyone was complaining and grouping him in with the other 3 11 million players. It should have been the 3 11 million players carrying the team and Nylander was a bonus.

I think Nylander had migraines. Matthews was much more vague. It sounded more like illness than injury.

The Leafs are not a total bust. Teams that have beaten them have made the Finals so they've lost to very good teams and most in 7 games. They've made the playoffs 8 consecutive years. Matthews and company have never missed the playoffs.

What's the common denominator. The opposition has always had the superior goaltending. There's Rask, Vasilevsky, Price, Bobrovsky, and Swayman. Meanwhile Leafs are putting out there Reimer, Andersen, Campbell, and Samsonov. Last 10 years Leafs have also had Bernier, Sparks, Enroth, Bibeau, McElhinney, Pickard, Hutchinson, Kaskisuo, Rittich, Mrazek, Kallgren, Murray, Jones. That is a huge list of nonsense goalies.

Leafs now have Woll. He looks like a potential real deal but he could be injury prone. He's played a total of 7 playoff games.
In those 7 games though he has a 1.78 GGA and .933 SV%

Leafs will probably resign Marner. Keep him as part of the core 3 forwards. Let Tavares contract expire and use the money to get 2 D the calibre of Tanev and Pesce. Use Woll as their starter. So next year they'll be fielding a lot of low priced help. They should make the playoffs still. They have cheap labour in Benoit, Lili, Timmons, Knies, McMann, Holmberg. They have McCabe for one more year and Rielly, Kampf, Jarnkrok longer term. Oh, and Reaves for 2 more years.

The Leafs must trade Marner, and then get rid of Taveras when his contract expires. The definition of insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The Leafs have had the same crap playoff results for years. Sure the Leafs have been close to winning some series in the playoffs, but close is only good in horseshoes.

Every year they've made changes. How is that doing the same thing over and over again?
Were you the one that said Marner sucked in EVERY playoffs?
They got rid of Hyman. Wasn't that a change? Weren't you happy with that.
Have you asked Marner if he wants to be traded?

They've got to get rid of 2 players of the core 4. This off season trade Marner, and the season after that, get rid of Tavares. This will open up some cap space. Yes, Marner has sucked in every playoff. Marner has not once come up with a clutch goal in the playoffs. The Leafs should also fire Keefe, and Shanahan, as well!!

Well, you lost all credibility if you think he has sucked in EVERY playoffs.
You must think it was his fault in the OT goal as well.

Marner's just not a clutch player in the playoffs. The Leafs have been in numerous playoff game 7's, and Marner has not helped the Leafs win one of those close playoff series. Time to get rid of Marner!!
