Not resigning Schenn (for 2.75 x 3) will turn out to be the first big mistake of Treliving.

Klingberg a Leaf, 1 year deal around $4.5 million. Good offensively but a disaster in his own end.

Of all the loses today that will hurt the most. I hesitate to criticize Treliving not knowing if Schenn even wanted to return.

Most American teams have an advantage over the Canadian team and that is the players who play for American teams pay little to no tax and thus could be convinced to sign for less $, maybe the Canadian teams should be allowed an extra $5M in cap space.

You have a point, but I could see him wanting to go back to Vancouver more than staying; and other than being an American team what else does Nashville have over TO ? Tax considerations maybe ?

Engvall 7 years 3 mill per. Promotion for him.
Kerfoot 2 years 3.5 mill per but to Arizona so it's a demotion.
Holl 3 years 10.2 mill promotion for him as well.

Nashville, Vegas, and Florida are the hottest destinations for hockey players these days. A combination of taxes, weather, and lifestyle seems to be the draw.

Ryan O'Reily 4 years $18 million. No thanks.

According to Treliving, the Leafs offered O'Reily the same but he was not interested in staying.

And the fact that he likes music, he plays guitar and he'll be playing with a few musicians in Nashville.

Bertuzzi signs, 1 year deal at $5.5 million. Leafs better hope he puts up better numbers than last season when he scored only 8 goals in 50 games.

Was he considered one of the top free agents available.

Considered one of the best. He will probably play with Matthews and Marner have a terrific year and then price himself out of Toronto

More move’s have to be coming. They’re $5 million over the cap and still need to sign Samsonov.

I’m surprised that no decisions have been made, at least officially announced, on the status of Matthews, Marner and Nylander. As of July 1st, Matthews and Marner’s no trade provision kicks in and neither can be moved without the player’s consent. Without extensions the Leafs can only watch them walk and get nothing in return.

That only leaves Nylander. He’s got a 10 team no trade clause but still can be traded. He’s the only chip available to get help on the defence and goaltending. The defence as it stands now is worse and softer than last year’s, which was inadequate to begin with. Maybe a big trade involving Willy is in the works?

nope....they sign nylander long term. Remember Tavares' deal ends in 2 years, they ride it out, then sign johnny for vet min at 800k and build around nylander, rielly, am34, mitch.
