I have London Knight season tickets, I seen him play about 45 games…he doesn’t play like Nazem Kadri, Easton Cowan is no where near as talented/skilled as Kadri…but Easton Cowan is one of the hardest working players you’ll see…if you liked Zack Hyman you’ll like Easton Cowan.
His quote, not mine.

Cowan has recently been described in the media as 'small, but feisty'. That's what every championship caliber team needs in the playoffs to win - small and feisty. Well done, Leafs, well done.

I doubt Treliving saw anything so special in this kid that warranted taking him at 28. More likely he's a new GM who didn't want to drop into the job and immediately piss off the scouting staff by invalidating their recommendation. It's inconceivable that there wasn't someone better available at 28. This kid would have been available much later in the draft. Waste of a first round pick.
Treliving shouldn’t listen to the team’s scouts, the guys that they’ve hired and paid to evaluate players and who have seen him play many times…he should have contacted you!

Wes Clark the scout watched Cowan many times, he's the kid they wanted. Treliving tried to trade down to get him in the later rounds but no GMs would bite, so the Leafs said fuck it, we take him now.

That much is clear - that was the guy they wanted and ultimately picked. In hindsight, I guess many will indeed question if the scouting staff made the right decision. Time will tell.

'Easton Cowan was the No. 95-ranked prospect by The Athletic’s Corey Pronman and No. 97-ranked prospect by The Athletic’s Scott Wheeler — two of the top prospect gurus in the NHL. If Toronto needed a center badly enough, there were plenty of better prospects with higher upside still available like Riley Heidt, Gavin Brindley, David Edstrom and Anton Wahlberg, who all would have made more sense. Sure, Toronto didn’t pick again until Round 5 and if Cowan was the guy they truly wanted, then why not go for him? But if you only have one pick in the first four rounds, you better make it count.'

Easton Cowan is not a centre, he plays left wing…if the athletic draft experts were so valued teams would get rid of their scouting staff and buy a subscription to the athletic instead…same goes with the TSN and Soortsnet experts, most of those guys have never seen these players play.

Word is the Leafs are bringing in 36 year old Ryan Reaves on a 3 year $3.9 million dollar deal. Good god what are they thinking?

Boston signed Lucic for 1 mill. If not Reaves then Leafs would need someone like Reeves and for dirt cheap. What are the options. Leafs are are a soft team. Reaves alone gives Leafs some backbone.

Didn’t they try that experiment with Simmons?

Simmonds is not Reaves. Reaves can still hit and he hits to hurt. When they played Simmonds against Boston late in the season Simmonds was the only deterrent Leafs had against Boston. So the experiement does work.
Simmonds is listed at 184 lbs. Reaves is the nastiest and scariest player out there.
Someone you really have to watch out for when he's on the ice cause he will hit to hurt.
Florida had Gudas, Bennett, and Tkatchuk that hit to hurt and Leafs had hitters but they don't hit to hurt so there's your experiment.
