Matthews not chasing those trophies, he's after the Conn Smythe and Lord Stanley.
Hart Trophy
Rocket Richard
Selke
Lady Byng

Really? Are you sure? I thought for sure he was placing a higher priority on those individual awards.

Obviously I was talking about awards that he'll be in contention for, not what his priorities are.

The League leader in blocked shots for forwards has 60. Matthews has 59.
Only 4 forwards in the entire League has better than Matthews +22. 2 in Van and 1 is McD

Only 6 D has better than Brodie at +21 and those D play on defensive juggernaugut teams like Bos, Flo, Wpg, Van
He leads all Leafs D in PK TOI. 2nd behind only Rielly in overall TOI.

Rielly struggled last year with his timing and reads when he came back from injury.
Leafs 55 games 70 pts. Vegas 56 games 70 pts

Lots of secondary scoring recently. Domi, McCabe, Kampf,, McMann, Knies. Is Tavares on the 3rd line still considered core 4

Vegas was missing both Eichel and Stone but they still had their full complement of D that won the Cup.
They also had Hill who leads all starting goalies in save percentage.
Before anyone starts giving the post the first star shots on goal were 42 to 26 and the margin was still 4 goals.
Leafs were also playing their 3rd string goalie and the tail end of back to back.

The 4th line of Reaves, Holmberg, and Kampf looked fantastic. Playing mostly in the offensive zone.
Domi with his speed may be a better fit for Nylander and he's looked legit lately.
Tavares is no longer a juggernaut even strength so this gives Leafs more balance and depth.
They'll still need at least one more solid D to play right side with Rielly.

6 pts behind Florida with a game in hand and 8 pts behind Boston with 2 games in hand.
Up next Colorado who won the cup in 2022 and Vegas again right after.
They play Boston twice first week of March.

He could be considered the best Leaf ever. Better than Sundin, better than Salming, etc. He might get his own statute.
A good playoff showing is what he needs now.

The Leafs should try to get David Savard from Montreal. Strong defensive players. Won the cup in 2021 with a stacked team. Just like like the Leafs. He would bring a lot defensively. A very respected, and underrated, player.

The Leafs are interested in Toronto native Chris Tanev but don't want to give up a 1st round pick for him. Savard would be considered for cheap like several low-round picks and the Habs would have to retain some salary, I can't see the Habs wanting to help the Leafs, do you? But the Leafs like Simon Benoit's play of late.

Montreal wants a second-round pick for Savard. He was after all a first-round pick exchange just 2 years ago for Tampa Bay. A veteran of 13 seasons who remains calm in very intensive pressure games. The Leafs need to aim at winning the cup. Not making it passed the first round. It should be a mentality of the cup and nothing else.

The Oilers will probably be willing to trade more for Tanez. The Leafs should go all in for it at this point. That said I never really notice Benoit plays.

Leafs have no more second-round picks left. So it's a no go for Savard.

I might be the only one, but I think perhaps the Leafs should be the 1st wildcard and try their luck with the NYR. Crossover onto the Metro division for the playoffs.

5 of the last 6 wins for the Leafs have been in regulation. A complaint about the Leafs earlier in the year.
Leafs have 16 regulation losses. Only 2 teams have less, Boston and Winnipeg.
