The future if tennis is ONLY ONE SERVE

Nov 30, 2018 — For tennis to survive, atp and wta must get rid of a second serve all together. While it may seem drastic at first, think about it:

BTW 1: Pickleball only allows one serve.
And it's underhand. Do you propose that as well?

Read the responses. That moron got totally ridiculed, and rightfully so.

Read his title: The future if tennis... And then he goes on the write " and even the might Wimbledon, King of Tradition..." The guy is illiterate and you look up to his opinion. Why am I not surprised?

BTW 2: I'm not going to try to reason with someone who can't think outside the box.
You'd rather be a Turtle Boy like you always do. Better to run away and think inside your shell. Or wait for Oracle to say something before you get the courage to do so on your own. LOL.

Oh darn, there is a typo. It should be "of" and not "if".
"The future of tennis is only one serve"

Anyway, I think one serve is sufficient. Some want/need two because that's the way it's been for 100 years or more. No big deal to me. No point trying interacting with someone whose major talent is posting silly pics.

Using pickleball as part of your argument doesn't help your case.
Just to be clear. It's no big deal to me. If some/many/most people need/want two serves so be it.

What is the 1st serve % for weekend tennis players? I imagine it's pretty low. The % for the pros is probably in the 60% range (just a guess). "The difference in first serve percentage between 2011’s No. 1, Novak Djokovic, and the 2011’s No. 100, Karol Beck, is strikingly small. Djokovic made 65 percent of his first serves, and Beck made 64 percent. "

What is Djokovic's first serve percentage?
The 23-time Grand Slam champion holds an impressive 65.8 percent success rate for first serves,

Here are a few examples of do overs.

1) Golf - If you don't like your first tee shot, you get to do a second tee shot.
2) Hockey shootouts - If you don't score on your first attempt you get a second attempt.
3) Football FG - If you don't like your first attempt, you get a second attempt.

I'm sure there could be a few more examples.

Different sports. Different parameters. Comparing tennis to other sports means nothing.

BTW, basketball players get more than one chance at the free throw line. A baseball player is able to take multiple swings in an at bat. Are you saying that you'd prefer one strike and you're out? Yes or no?

Once again, read the responses to the illiterate guy you look up to. They make a fool of him and then, like you, he runs away and hides. Maybe that OP was you with a different handle.

Just to be clear. The Maria Sharapova pic was posted in fun. I have the actual untouched pic. The pic was not directed/targeted at any particular member. Every intelligent and rational member already know this and don't need any explanation. Of course, there is always that one member who constantly need everything to be explained in detail to him.

On the other hand, a FG kicker only gets one attempt at a FG he/she doesn't get a do over if the 1st attempt fails. A golfer gets only one attempt at his/her tee shot, he/she doesn't get a do over if he/she doesn't get a do over.

A hockey player gets only one attempt to shoot in a shootout. He/she doesn't get a do over.
I once saw an NHL player tried to get fancy and lost the puck on his way towards the net. No, they did not allow him to get a second chance. Since this is a hockey thread, I had to get some hockey in here.

What if instead of slowing courts, the 2nd serve was simply removed from tennis. One serve - if it is a fault, you lose the point. This would ...

I can see it now. All sports should start using tennis balls and only tennis balls.
Basketball will dribble Penns down the hard court.
Hockey players will stickhandle the Wilsons down the ice.
Baseball pitchers will throw Dunlops at a wicked 50 mph.
Cause you know those are the balls tennis uses.
All sports should conform.
When I use to play shinny/road hockey as a kid we did use tennis balls instead of a puck. LOL!

I deleted my post because I'd rather not get into this nonsense irrational discussion about tennis that some person who doesn't watch basketball started in a Leaf thread of all places.
Evidence of irrational ... Jose Theodore should be a Hall of Famer

In the hockey shootout videos, they did say the player does get a second attempt if he/she/they didn't touch the puck in the first attempt.

I think the same rule applies in tennis if the server tosses the ball up in the air and doesn't hit the ball with his racquet. Yes, I've seen servers toss the ball in the air and swings and misses the ball. He/she/they get to start the process all over again.

The person who initially raised the 2nd serve issue in tennis wasn't me.

Back to regularly scheduled All Things Leafs

Panthers have lost their last 4 games.
Leafs 2 games in hand and 6 pts behind.

M. Rielly has jumped J. Tavares in the points leader board

And the consensus has been the same every single time. It will never happen.

FYI, I'm done with this topic. Apologies.

Shots on goal last game:
Leafs 46
Cannucks 21

Save % last game:
Jones .714
Demko .913

When Vancouver shot they made it count.

Vancouver has the best goal differential in the league at +57 and they're 8-1-1 in their last 10
Next best is Winnipeg at +45 and 9-1-0 in their last 10.
Edmonton is 13-0-0 in their last 13.
Like Bozak, Kessel, and Kadri before him Hyman could very well win a cup.
