Leafs have played 9 overtime games of 20 this season.
Stanley Cup Champs Vegas has 8.
The record is held by Boston with 30.
Leafs on pace to break this record.

The Leafs are on pace for 37 OT games, if they go 30-7, I'm not complaining.
7 OT losses equates to 3.5 regulation wins.
Plenty of people think Leafs have more talent than most other teams so wouldn't it makes sense to bank the point and play for the extra in a skills competition.
Playoffs have no loser points but regular season is not the playoffs as we all know.

Pittsburgh as of today has 9 wins in regulation time and the Leafs have 5 wins in regulation time.... are the Penguins that inferior?
They're inconsistent for sure but would you say that makes them worse than the Leafs?

It's not an important question but I'm trying to figure out who you meant by the big 3.
I think the Leafs are better than the Penguins which is why I called them inferior.
The big 3 - Matthews, Marner, Nylander

The win loss records that I’m most interested in, as an indication of how competitive this team will be come playoff time, is the regulation wins vs losses. Right now it stands as 5-6 not counting 3on3 ot and shootouts which will not be part of the playoffs. Hardly an encouraging sign.

Another concern is that the Leafs might face a team with a $95mm payroll. Yeah, yeah, I know there is no salary cap in the playoffs.

not always sure...

Might face a team with a $95 million payroll??
The Leafs lead the League right now with a cap hit of over $95.4 million.
There's a reason underperforming players like Murray and Klingberg will suddenly find themselves on LTIR.
I'm not accustomed to hearing sarcasm from you so I wasn't sure....

Boston had 135 point season last year and lost in the first round.
Florida barely made the playoffs with 92 points. Beat out both Buffalo and Pittsburgh by only 1 point.
Florida made the Finals.
Montreal made the Finals as the 18th seeded team.
The year TB won the President's Trophy Columbus beat them 4 straight in the first round.
