Definitely not an expert but I have talked with Persian Jews in the industry that I used to work in, and they said Jews were generally treated fairly well in Iran.

But that's pretty much the ONLY country in the Middle-East where Jews are welcome.

I absolutely believe in punching someone out in these circumstances. Squirting hot sauce would have been funny though. There are many bullies out there who think they can just say what they want and sometimes they need to be taught a lesson. The vendor was exceedingly patient and him saying he couldn't speak English was him hoping the idiot would just walk away.
