Good game tonight. We totally out played them in the 2nd period. That penalty shot awarded to Gomez was bullshit. But anyway, good game. And BTW how bad did Brodeur look tonight? I think the year off didn't do him any good, seems to have lost his edge. I dunno...Leafs win!! :D

don't think it is only Brodeur... rather the entire NJ club. Brodeur still shows brilliance... actually his save percentage is among the highest still! goals against, well that's another story, but that's more of a team average.

i don't think NJ was able to recoup from losing Neidermayer and Stevens.

They are playing well right now. But... they are still not a contender.

Is it just me or is Belfour starting to show his age. He seems to have trouble cutting down the angles.
He also does not seem to be able to master the new rules as far as where the goaltenders can play the puck.

Belfour is definately showing his age. He freezes up alot and tends to forget when or where he is able to play the puck. He does tend to not get as many angles cut off then before. However when he does manage to get them he IMHO is still one of the best at positioning himself depending on the shooter. That is only when he is on. But it isn't just you A-Rod, I notice the same thing.

BTW, and to all you McCabe haters, come on....are you not just waiting for the pass to go to McCabe and have him wind up that cannon? He isn't leading the leagues defenceman in goals and PP points for no reason. You all can continue to hate, but as long as his numbers don't go down, please give a little credit where credit is due. As much as I hate the Sens, I give them credit when credit is due. Not often but I do...

not cutting down the angles is a big problem for an immobile goalie like Belfour. he relies heavily on his position to take away the shooters edge and when he isn't doing that, he is not going to be the eddie of great years past. he doesn't have great lower body reflexes ever since he injured his back. his upper body isn't fast but he has great hand-eye coordination. he will be retiring soon. too bad that this has to happen to all great players...

PHNINE i don't think there are any McCabe haters on terb, are there? one thing that is great about McCabe is that he does demand the puck. I remember in years past when the leafs D-men were completely forgot about during a power play... ahh yes... the mucker years... domi, corson, tucker, et al. trying to keep the puck down low and not getting hardly any shots on the PP... good thing those days are gone! remember them, the leafs were the crybabies of the NHL after every well deserved penalty! alot less penalties now, that's for sure.

now guess what... the leafs are starting to address that problem of being outshot every game... there still getting outshot alot, but the margins are narrowing. keep it up and the teams record will improve. this is largely contributed by McCabe, Kaberle, O'Neil, and Allisons change of play.

One dimensional...

...as a Leafs fan, I as well ,l can give credit wehere it is deserved and criticism where warranted..McCabe is a powerhouse on the PP...best point guy in the league this year...but his defensive skills are woefully lacking. He's often caught out of position, lacks any physical intensity along the boards or in front of the net..and plays far too many minutes...Quinn needs to balance his 6 Defensmen better in terms of ice time..Hopefully before the trade deadline, the Leafs find a way to aquire a physical defenseman or 2 (tall order,I know )...if they don't..and happen to make the playoffs, they won't make it past the first round..Ottawa curse or not...

Great game last night. It was nice to see Sid the Kid play. Kilger had his two goals. And OT was exciting to watch. Leafs win against the Penguins again.

What to do?

One of the things that has been impressive about the Leafs in recent weeks is that there is a noticable improvement in overall team speed with the injuries to Lindros and Alison. While the call ups may not be posting as impressive numbers as L and A the team's overall defensive game is improving and I think more ice time for Wellwood, Stajen et al may see them potting a few more goals (also like the Pohl kid, but he's obviously not in the same league as L or A).

so what do you do if you're Quinn and everyone comes back healthy. it seems to me that, out of the gate, some of the older guys like Sanderson, Lindros and Alison had pretty good jump but they were slowing down at the thirty game mark.

Would you trade one of them in hopes of finding another competent defensemen and elevate Wellwood into their place?

There's tricks to every trade and pricks in every parade .

The only team that they have played during this six game winning streak that could be considered god might be Buffalo..

The next three games out west will be a good test for them

don't know who sanderson is, but, if Jeff O'Neil is of Scottish/Irish descent and not Irish Islander descent, he'd be part of the Anderson clan...

so could he be referring to S(cottish)Anderson?

Ok, ok, dumb mistake -- don't know why I typed sanderson, brian fart.

I know it's O'Neil and while I like him as a player I'm not sure which trio has impressed me more -- second year man, Stajan, Steen and Wellwood or O'NEIL, Lindros and Alison(sp).

and it was a shoot out win agianst Buffalo, or one goal games against shitty teams, or wins over slumping teams or fluke goals during this streak

yes, the western road trip is a better test of where this team is really at

..you got to play these teams..and win the games...look around the NHL every week..there are tons of examples of top notch teams, being tested, or even knocked off by cellar dwellers....Of course the "Western swing" will be a better gauge of where this team is at...great example tonight..the mighty Senators barely beat the Capitals..score 3-1,including an empty netter... the 6 game streak is a solid one

3 games is hardly a test in an 82 game season... besides, calgary and edmonton are the only real competition on this road trip. yeah, we'll have to wait and see how they fair, but, one could argue that the games in their own conference are more important to win. however, for the leafs, i think any game that they could win is a must as their is a very small point spread to where they are now and where they'd be in 9th in the eastern conference and not make post season.

Tough loss tonight. I think they were saving there energy for tomorrow or something, but they didn't look like they were totally there tonight. The Flames played well, and skated really hard. Too bad for Tucker, looks like he caught a few punches on those ribs. Ouch!! Kiprosoft (sp) stood on his head and was fucking amazing. Leafs lose. :(
