the tough thing to realize though is that this may be the best we will see of the leafs play this year... they can continue their strong play right until the end of the season and NOT make playoffs...

let's hope not. the leafs belong in the post season.

Yeah, tonight was exciting to say the least and raycroft, whoa....

One thing, and I finally agree with the other detractors, what the living fuck was up with Macabe tonight? I mean, holy shit he sucked the big kahuna. he couldn't trap an attempted clearing shot to save his life, I think I watched three go by him in a row and I just LOVED that fan shot just before he took his first penalty....

McCabe seems to suck when we are doing pretty good but once we go on a loosing skid he is the one putting the pucks in the net and setting up the powerplays.

Kaberle on the other hand is the one to watch out for. He always rushes the puck into the offensive zone he just needs to shot the puck a lot more. If he did shoot more he could score more and then maybe be a contender for winning the Norris trophy. Even though I bet he will be in the top 3 nominees.

And the Eastern Conference is pretty tight. Sure they are 9th right now, but only 5 pts out of 4th.

Looks like it will come down to the wire for sure.

the acc has been a career killer for quite a few players... this is exactly why some formidable talent, even though some from ontario and at one time cheered for the buds, will never let a trade occur where it would end up in having them play for toronto.

but, that's another issue.

let's celebrate how well some key players on the leafs are playing right now...

namely Rayzor, Kaberle, White, Colaiacovo, Sundin, O'Neil and Antropov.

jeez, there are some surprises in that short list. anyone else surpassing your expectations?

Yeha, what happened to Antropov? I mean he was a TREE last season and now since he's been back from the DL he's on fire....using his size along the boards, scoring goals, passing, he's still a little slow but man, what a turnaround....

I think he is actually listening to what some people are saying about what is wrong with his play. Now if he can stay healthy he will be a good player.

But if he continues to get injured then he will be sub par.

Leafs surpassing expectations??

....I think you have to put John Pohl on that lsit of Leafs playing better than expected...besides that shootout goal, he has been showing solid 2 way play. It is somewhat dissappointing that some other teams in the hunt have played well duriing this stretch. I think Maurice has got the message through to these guys,on how they need to play, and I expect this stretch of solid play to continue til the end of the season, with the Leafs solidly in a playoff spot, likely the 5th or 6th position

agree.

Pohl has sweet hands and is one of the hardest workers on the ice.

Battaglia and Greene need to be mentioned, too.

i'm not as bullish on playoff positioning though... but, it can happen... 5th to 10th are anyone's bet, and they will be close.

Well you can finally say that Raycroft "stole" one for the Leafs tonight. What a save on Guerin. You could see the rebound coming right to Guerin with the whole net empty and you just knew it was a sure goal but the net never bulged. Wow.

I also liked when with about 5 minutes left, a Blue tried to check Antropov beside the St. Louis net and it was like the guy was hitting a brick wall. Antropov never budged.

That save on Guerin should be the highlight of the month!!! Absolutely spectacular.

And yes, he stole this game for the Leafs. Good teams have goalies that can do that, hope he continues.

.... Here is hoping they never come home..
that's because they get booo'd outta their own arena.

just got back from Pittsburgh last night. i was impressed to see my Pens steal a game from the #1 team in the league. (PS- Staal maybecome the better player of him vs. Malkin when it's all said and done)... anyways, when i got to the hotel, i put on ESPN to see an expose of Raycroft... they're touting him as the biggest steal of this season. they made a compelling argument for it, also.

whatta save Rayzor made on Guerin...

tell me... what leafs have excelled while being boo'd in the ACC?

and, you wonder why so many elite talent prefer to play in the US over Canada...

Any Leaf player who gets booed shouldn't get too upset. Hey, Leafs fans have booed some of the greatest players in the game. Orr and Gretzky come to mind. Just watched an old game on Leafs TV and everytime Orr touched the puck he was booed. Then he would go coast to coast and make them all look silly. Awesome. :p

Okay (for fun)

Larry Murphy .. Got boo'd a lot in T.O yet put up good numbers , before being "Banished" to Detroit to suffer through stanley cup ring fittings ...

He spent time with Mario L to didn't he ?

The Preds sure did seem to win a lotta foot races last night didn't they ?

I just gotta say: I thought the leafs were down and out, 3-0 after the first but man they turned it on....

I also have to say: Is it just me or do these new rules meant to speed up the game actually slow it down with all the BS penalties? I mean, really, what's the difference between putting your stick in front of someone to go for the puck and putting it in front of him to hook him?

Oh, and I guess tackling someone isn't interference as long as you don't use the stick?

Oh, one more thing, I guess you can highstick a player (Macabe) but you're ok as long as you don't (heaven forbid) HOOK him....

Sorry, but the officiating at tonight's game sucked the big kahuna...

Yeah, and that no goal by the leafs? Listen to the whistle, it went off AFTER the puck was over the line.....fucking refs.....

Just got back from tonight's game. First period indeed was a sleeper, second was good. Ref'ing was weak. Was fairly close to the Newbury fight - man did he take a beating!! Only good that came of it was right afterwards they threw out two Penguins fans on opposite sides of the arena for celebrating it too much I guess.
