I would not be suprised if they landed Luongo who desperately wants to sign with Toronto, seeing they are the most storied and respected franchise in hockey.
Most storied? You seem to be forgetting that Montreal has a team as well.

I think the Leafs can sign the aforementioned because they want to play in Toronto. If JFJ picked up the phone and said "Wade and Zdeno, you can play in the beautiful, safe, and championship laden City of Toronto", they would say "You can have both of us as a package for 5.5M a year" (similar to the Selanne Kariya thing).

I mean just the prospect of them pulling the storied TML jersey on would be enough to give them goose bumps. I would say the same holds true for Elias. For him, being able to wake up in the morning, knowing that Redden, Chara, Kaberle, and McCabe are backing him, he can do his thing without worry.

Even if Luongo isn't a free agent, every free agent goalie (and every other position player for that matter) will be waiting by the phone for JFJ to make any offer and sign on the dotted line. I don't think Torontonians realize how much people want to live and play in Toronto (I think the most beautiful city in North America). JFJ is in an admirable position. I think the organization and it's fans should be blushing at these prospects. Consider yourselves lucky.
If that's the case, why haven't they won a cup in so long? If EVERYONE wants to play in Toronro and are willing to take pay cuts, then they should have all the talents. Especially since there was no cap b4.

those three would actually all fit under Florida's current payroll. (they have the league's #1 available cap room presently and also the lowest payroll)
hmmmm correct me if I'm wrong but, if they have the #1 cap room then wouldn't it imply that they have the lowest payroll?

Knock Knock, HELLO MCFLY? Its called sarcasm. He laid it on so thick even we Leaf fans see through it. Well the semi-realistic ones anyway.

Anywhere there's a Strip Joint
Leafs won 6-5 in OT. Sundin 4 goals, 2 assists. Where were these kind of performances in Jan Feb March when they neede them. Even though Tampa lost, it's just too little too late....

Tampa has Carolina twice still....so there is a smidgen of hope

It's over. Leafs play Sens Saturday which they will lose - and Tampa plays Caps last game of the season and they will win. Close but no cigar. I'm happy the Leafs are making the last few games meaningful, but when all is said and done, just too little way too late.

Anyone know who gets in the playoffs if Tampa and the Leafs happens to be tied in points?
If both Tampa and the Leafs are tied for eighth spot, Tampa gets in. The tie-breaker is MOST WINS, Tampa currently has 42 wins, the Leafs 38. If both are tied in wins and tied in points, I believe the next tie breaker is head-to-head.

I agree with Big E, it's over when it's over, and it's not over.
Too little too late? Perhaps, but the fact is there are 3 games remaining for tampa and they need to win two of those games to eliminate the leafs (should the leafs win their next 4). Even if the leafs lose one of their next 4 games, they still have a slim chance of making the playoffs. Two of tampa's last three games are against carolina, and washington is not exactly a push over with zero talent....These numbers are not unsurmountable by any means.

You Leaf fans are like some pathetic drunk guy who has been hitting on beautiful babes at a bar all night and getting torpedoed every time. Then at 2am the drunk still thinks he's gonna get laid. Give it up. It's over. O-V-E-R. The Leafs are done, dead, kaput, nada. It's sad really. Pathetic.

Everyone is talking about closing the gap on Tampa Bay. Well HELLO last time I looked there was this team from Atlanta that was still ahead of the Leafs and playing pretty well. So if they cant even get into ninth position why do you think they have a chance to capture eighth??????

And who is your team, the Pens?

Leafs probably won't make the playoffs, but at least they are doing what they have to and winning the rest of the way and making every game mean something - it's the least they can do for their fans considering their awful play most of the year.

Tampa is playing 2 consecutives with Carolina (who is currently 1st in the conference)...Hopefully Carolina takes both and fights to play against a 8th spot team instead of Montreal which would be more difficult for them....In that case even if Tampa wins against the Caps the Leafs have a chance of making it provided they win all of their games

Leafs basically need to win the rest of their games...NYI, Buff, Ott, Pitts...2 out of 4 of these are games they should not have any problems winning...evening considering Ottawa is short many of their star players who they are resting for the playoffs...things do look good...the only game which may cause problems is the Buffalo game since the Leafs destroyed them just last week I believe...

The team with the best chance of takin 8th is Atlanta...but again they are relying on the Lightning to drop 2 against the 'Canes...The Thrashers are playing the Capitals twice, the Panthers, and the Penguins...though all of these games seem winnable for a team playing desperate hockey as the Thrashers have been as of late...the Capitals aren't an easy team to play 2 consecutive games against...although their record doesn't show that...they have caused playoff teams big problems in recent games and are playing mostly for respect and Ovechkin is just trying to get as many points as he can to put himself up in the rankings for the rookie points history...he's up there (i think in 6th or 7th) right now..

so basically...the next 3-4 days will decide the Leafs' fate...and if at the end the Leafs hold 8th spot...you can be rest assured the city will be going wild and there will be many band-wagon jumpers supporting this "miracle" team through the playoffs...

i don't see any leaf flags on any cars when driving through woodbridge presently... should the abovementioned come true, i'd be willing to see the woodbridge wagonjumpers change colours overnight...

i remember in 2003-04 seeing calgary flames flags popping up in woodbridge in the last 2 rounds of the playoffs... what affiliation woodbridge has with calgary...? i do not know.

As a non-Leaf fan, I am going to give massive credit to the TML's. What they did last night was nothing short of spectacular. Only crappy thing is, how much is left in the tank, that took an emotional toll on everybody. I would not be suprised to see them win against the Sens on Saturday. If I was the coach of Ottawa, I may very well rest key players to avoid an unecessary goonery.

The Leafs could very well make the playoffs, and if so, the media would have to put a collective foot in their mouths for sure. However, a playoff run just won't happen with the current roster. But, what they hell do I know anyways.

Either way, the heart that the Leafs have is uncontested. I would hate to see them win the rest of their games, and be left on the outside looking in, that would suck. Then the reflection of all the lost divisional games will be tough to take.

My 2 cents.

yea i agree with you too...it would be hard to swallow for the Leafs if they win the rest of their games and are still left on the outside...those 2 losses to Montreal will prove to be the killers if this happens...

however at the moment i feel the Leafs and Thrashers deserve this 8th playoff spot more than the Lightning according to recent play...and if the Leafs do win their next 4 games they will definitely be shattered but respected by their fans and other teams for the fight they put up....

Mats Sundin has put this team on his shoulders over the past 7-8 game point streak...he is showing all of his critics that he is worth every cent he is being paid...Kaberle put it best..."i would say he's the best player to come out of the olympics"...and considering Kaberle himself is arguably the best defenceman on the team...thats a high statement, and true...

I think he's taken it upon himself after Ed Belfour's injury to fight as hard as he can for this team...although he wasn't consistent throughout the year...we can't really blame him since he did have that freak injury in the very first game of the season...and for him to come back with so much fire is amazing...

He definitely deserves the cudos from the fans at the end of the season for his performance as of late...he was out for a while and has come back to take over the goal scoring and point lead for the team...(i think he'll hit 30 goals and 80 points easily by the way he's been recently playing)...
