2006 - 2007 NHL Season Starts Here

Well 21pro, it is funny you bumped this thread, because I was going to when the game time was a little closer. But thanks for saving me the search time.

As for keeping this thread, I think we should continue it as is. I don't see any reason to start a new one.

The Blue and White game was pretty entertaining. Lots of hard hits, and a good chance to see some of our younger talent. The shootout was fun to watch, and did showcase some scoring and goaltending.

Tonights's game is our first pre-season game against the Buffalo Sabres, who I believe are sporting a new logo and uniform. I prefer the old one to the new one, but I guess I could care less either way.

So 21pro, any notes or comments for tonight's game?

Hey Guyroch, you could call up your cable provider and have LeafsTV activated for the mean time, until the NBA season starts and then switch back.

guys- take this game at face value... it's an exhibition game. even the sabres did not look like their former '06 playoff self...

and those sabres sweaters are U-G-L-Y...

Don't BOO Raycroft just yet. Why the fucking leaf FANS were doing that tonight at the ACC was beyond me...
He was the best player on the ice for us by far. All of the Buffalo goals were scored on the PP, two of which were 5-3 goals.

I think he'll have a solid year.

The game was pretty bad, but I will reserve my comments for until the real season starts.
Real season, pre-season, playoffs...
Doesn't matter..They are the Leafs, no matter what the season, they are always close but never a cigar.

I am a leaf fan, but have come to the conclusion; until the Leafs have an ownership in place that is comitted to winning, they never will.

As long as the Sabres keep winning, ugly sweaters and all, the good doc will forgive them. Toronto better learn to play as a team and win, or it is going to be another long boring season for them and their fans.

I am sorry but I hate hearing the term its only a pre-season game ..
Carolina lost all but 1 of their pre-season games last year.

Edmonton won only 1 ex. game too.

On the other hand- Atlanta had a perfect pre-season record and didn't make the playoffs.

It is not a precursor of things to come. You can hate the de-meaning of a pre-season game, but, the facts are what they are. Quite simply, pre-season is not played at the same professional level as a season game and when the season opens, you'll find that some teams just have more guys in their organization that play better at NHL season hockey then at training camp hockey. It is also the same reason for why players like Bates Battaglia, Aleksandar Suglobov, and John Pohl can dominate in the AHL but, might not excel in the NHL - and guys like Jason Spezza and Eric Staal can dominate in both the AHL and NHL... similar ages and experience, but, different quality of players to say the least.

you are right- the result should have been different. especially since toronto has more players trying to impress their new coach. but, in no way is this a sure thing as a precursor as to what is to come.

besides, the lines have just been assembled and they didn't have much time to gel yet.

4 pp goals against was not bad- 2 of them were on the 5 on 3... penalties were a much bigger issue than how much money they sunk in on their new defence.

this undisciplined hockey is what has plagued the leafs a few years ago... for many years- during the Gilmour days, the Corson days- and possibly now with too many players trying to impress their new coach.

BTW- Paul Maurice's biggest criticism while in Carolina was how undisciplined his team was with taking bad penalties at crucial times...

LEAFS 3 SENATORS 1

Tellqvist stood on his head and was making some pretty awesome saves.

Pecca's first outing as a Leaf was impressive, and it looks like he'll fit in just great.

Now let's try doing this in the regular season.

As with game 1 this means nothing as far as predicting how the team will do this season. There were a few good individual performances, which is encouraging.

Hey guys, how about we start a new thread for each season? This thread is for the 2005-2006 season. We should start one for the 2006-2007 season.

Telqvist played really, really strong. Which brings to mind; Doesn't he always seem to come up big when there is little pressure on him? Remember when the leafs were in a race to make the final playoff spot and Belfour went down? Soon as the pressure escalated, Telly's play became inconsistent... but, in the meaningless games, he can really put on a schooling...

Leafs looked better tonight, but, keep in mind- this was mostly against a Senators FARM team tonight...
