The Fat Lady Has Sung

Well, it's over :( . You've got to give it to JFJ. In three short years he managed to turn one of the top teams in the NHL (over the past decade) into a non-playoff contender. If MLSE canned Rob Babcock for the shitty job he did with the Raptors than I hope JFJ suffers the same fate. What a piece of work he turned out to be and same goes for the moron that hired JFJ in the first place.

....I'm a Leaf fan from way back..and I'm not that dillusional...best teams in the League over the past decade??....One conference final???....a couple of playoff runs...not that bad...but certainly not top team in the league. This team (as said by some experts) is not the St Louis Blues. A blowup is not necessary. JFJ and Quinn may have saved their jobs with the late run. My guess is that they will not sign McCabe(badly over rated) not sign Allison,or Khavanov,Berg and Domi...and pick up a couple mid priced players, one for defense and one for forward line. Add in a couple of the good young players they have used this yr..and this team will make the playoffs next year and make a decent run at it...

Well, lets say Allison and O'Neill dont return. I think Lindros might be back. If they can keep McCabe at a reasonable price, I say keep him. I think Quinn should be a goner, not ready to give up on JFJ just yet. Should be an interesting off-season.

this now solidifies whether the leafs want to play hockey or would rather be golfing this time of year given the circumstances...

Lindros hinted on radio interview last week that he and O'Neill probably won't be back... Allison might return, depending on what his agent can work out for him... Lindros also hinted that Berg will retire and Belfour will probably play elsewhere, too.

well, it looks like the team may finally be a younger one next season...

Being the one that started this thread, I can confidently say that my loyalty as a Leaf fan was tested during my abscence from the season's updates. When I heard the team was losing games and dropping losses left and right I knew the new NHL was just not what Ferguson had planned it would be. Our team was filled with veterans that were either on the way down or past their prime. The injuries seemed to have lingered all the way through the gruesome season as well. The Olympic break served Sundin well, and I am happy to see him taste some sort of victory, meanwhile having to come back to the poorly contructed team in the home of hockey. The chase for the cup however, is something that I as a Leaf fan won't be able to see for yet another season. I am still a Leaf fan or should I say I am only a Leaf fan rather then a hockey fan. I'll watch the playoffs, I might get excited about a game or two, but ultimately I'll still be poutting and debating how for the first time in I think 8 seasons we couldn't make the playoffs. It is what it is. I also think Quinn got the shitty end of the deal where he was fired instead of Ferguson, but that is a holw different thread and issue all together.

So I guess this thread will rest for the remainder of the off-season and perhaps will be rejuvinated in the fall. I must say 21pro, I am thankful that you kept this thread going for the entirety of the season during my absence to Asia.

Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) have alot of work on their hands for the next few months and it will be interesting to see what the board does during this some what crucial time. Attention now can be diverted to our beloved Blue Jays. They are closer then the Raptors or the Leafs are to bringing another major championship to this city. Its going to be a good summer...GO JAYS!!!

BTW, Happy hunting TERBites!! Time for some summer poon...:D

One last note...to all you Sens fans...I am so sorry to see your team choke once again in the playoffs. I don't know what's worse...being a Leaf fan when the Leafs were such shit this year, or being a Sens fan when they were projected to win the cup and choke so horribly. Ahhh you gotta love this sport...till next year TERBites!! :D

I don't know about that, I mean the Leafs just haven't been able to put a decent team together. Blame management for that. They don't choke though. I think choking is way worse, but hey to each his own. I am a Leafs fan through and through, so I'll wait patiently until they do manage to build a team that can make a run or the cup. Go Oilers I guess...

Me as well, can't help myself....I guess you could call me part of the problem. They didnt choke this year, you have to succeed to choke....they just were'nt good enough, but I think they will be.

I'm a Habs fan and I agree, the Leafs did not choke, they did a great job considering the players they had, and their final run was great to watch, they just need good management and within a few years they could become contenders, but right now they don't have that management.

retire or renew this thread for the 06/07 season?

PHNINE, what do you think?

It would be nice to preserve what you started. Alot of good comment, debate, and info in this thread built up since '05...
