I'm starting to think the leafs have dramatically upgraded their team at all positions, though...

for addressing the offense in the summer ... ...
did tonight's performance better satisfy your craving? 5 goals on 27 shots on net.

I have a feeling Leaf fans will have a new hero by the middle of the season .... His number is 27 and his name is Peca .. Leaf fans love the stlye
he plays ...
Isn't he LEAFS Public Enemy #1? Could the leaf fans really come to love him?

he is one of the biggest bangs for your buck that you can sign in the NHL... always has been.

you are right, though, guyroch- the leafs aren't shooting enough... got badly outshot again lastnight, even though they pulled off a winner. too bad, this is still remnants of the last 10 seasons of the leafs getting outshot on most every night... It might take a while to overcome this obstacle, but, I believe they are on the right track to doing so...

Since the thread title does not have a date, I don't see why there needs to be a new thread started. It is a waste of bandwidth. I mean unless people don't know how to access the last post or last page right away, and are physically scrolling through all the pages, I think keeping this thread is fine.

However, if more people feel that it is absolutely necessary, then I guess I will...

21pro and I have already decided that this thread will continue. Now that you have agreed as well, I don't see any reasonto start a new one. Go Leafs Go!!!!

the benefits to starting a new thread for the new season are definitely present- if anyone wishes to start a new one, go ahead! it's a great idea... my suggestion would be to make it unique from this one... i'll still keep this one alive, though.

some forum rooms even have the good ole GDT - or Game Day Threads, where the discussion is only on the incidents surrounding single games... an example for a title would be for their home opener:
GDT Oct 4, 2006 @ ACC Leafs vs. Senators Game Time 7:30 PM ... they have their merit, because it is easy to search a particular game.

However, i figured we should keep this thread alive. It has alot of good info- too much to let it get buried as just part of last year's thread, then soon to be forgotten 05/06 season when so many changes have occurred....

instead, look, in June 07 when the leafs are still playing hockey, we can look back at how far we have come...

besides, whenever you start a new thread, you are never going to gaurantee that it grows to above 500 posts... this one belongs in the Heritage Conservation Project... It will soon become it's own museum of artifacts... lol.

right now it's the oldest 'living thread' and also, the 2nd longest thread in the Sports forum

The thread deserves to live on. Scanning through pages of posts, finding certain games on certain dates, is actually a great way to not only record the games and notes, but also allows one to do some searching, which is never a bad thing.

I also agree that new threads can be created, as any theory warrants a discussion. Yet meanwhile, considering this thread is one of the most viewed, many members still come to this thread to get information, or some season's past nostlagic reading to say the least.

There is no question that if the Leafs ever make it to the Stanley Cup finals, and happens to win it, then and only then would I totally be 100% supportive that the MODS can close and lock this thread for good, and even perhaps become a sticky. Imagine the read in all the posts, from us not even making the playoffs, to winning the cup. Fingers are always crossed, but never holding my breath. The hardships of being a Leaf fan. So yeah let's keep this thread alive, beleaf...

BTW, boycotting other threads should be left to other topics of more importance like bbbj or cbj, lfk or dfk, shill or not shill, just to name a few...LOL :D

Was there a reason to have 50 players at camp ... Only
Johnny Pohl is a maybe ...

I get the feeling the coach isn't a Jeff O'Neill fan ...
Nobody's gonna give him more of a chance than Maurice and O'Neill will probably play harder for Maurice than anyone else. O'Neill had his best years with Maurice as his coach.

They always invite extra players to camp. That way they can evaluate everybody in their system under similar conditions. All the coaches can see all the players at once in one place. They need to know who are the up and comers as well as who they might want to bring up in case of injury etc. during the season.

I think O'Neill is a pretty safe bet to get good minutes to start the season. He has too much upside potential (if he gets his game back) for the Leafs to give up on him too soon. I suspect, though, that he'll be on a short leash. If he doesn't work hard and/or produce through the first 10 or 12 games he'll be relegated to spot duty.

I think right now that Maurice doesn't want him being too complacent. A little fear can be a good motivator.

O'Neil is not right in the head... and people blame it on the death of his brother-(a tragedy on its own, nonetheless) but, this issue has gone back to his jr. days... It's too bad, but, I think the leafs can do without the drama of an unstable mind.

from the looks of Belfour so far this season, his game is 100% through... he's finished... Raycroft is a good alternative.

Toronto needs to get O'Neil outta town. he's counter productive to success.

i think they will have ok scoring... an issue? yes. but, still should be able to keep them above .600 hockey considering who they play this season and the somewhat equal division they are in.

Raycroft will be given a few chances to redeem himself... as he should as he is with a new team... MLSE invested alot on this guy considering who else was available. they won't give up on him on 2 games. yes, he'll still be #1 in leafland...

the reason i said .600 hockey is that it should place them in the playoffs. you basically just have to get your 45 wins and it's a given.

for the most part though, the leafs are handcuffed from making any blockbuster moves because of things coming from the salary contract end of things that JFJr still needs to improve on...

an example is the fact that newly signed Bryan McCabe makes almost 1/2 million dollars more per season than Hart Trophy winner Joe Thornton. In fact McCabe makes more than Chris Pronger, Rob Blake, Ilya Kovalchuk, and Scott Niedermayer and many more 'A' listers. JFJr sure is high on this guy... personally, i think this is what's holding the leafs back.

about Aubin: he's trouble. good goaltender, but can start shit in the dressing room. you wait and see- you'll realize why Pittsburgh shipped him out. If Aubin is allowed any position of leadership on the team, you'll soon see that it'll only take some time before he blows up at his teammates and destroys any chemistry there is.

I can understand JFJr's position when he had to sign McCabe last year, only because everyone was saying that you couldn't replace him so might as well sign him. Even if that is the right mentality, the worst part is that we couldn't trade him if we wanted to...I mena nobody wants him. LOL

As for Aubin, I have also heard that he is known to speak his mind in the locker room when he gets comfortable enough to do so. I am not sure how Maurice handles this kind of thing, but I cerainly hope he keeps them check. I remember a few years ago when there were divided sides in the locker room between Tucker and McCauley I think...or something like that. In any case, we have enough distraction in Toronto being the "home of hockey," so let's hope there are no problems.

Stop Grippin Leaf Fans...

...it's pre season....teams are trying out their farm talent...as are the Leafs..and rotating goalies every game...even every period for some teams...We're gonna need 15-20 games to know where this Leaf team sits. They are alright in net...decent on defense(at least 1st 4)...but have their typical weak offense. Guys like Stajan, Steen,Wellwood,Sugoblov,Pohl are going to have to perform above expectations for this team to make the playoffs....let the real games begin...

sorry, had to laugh at this one. Aubin isn't exactly Belfour or Hasek, either.
