Cavan Biggio designated for assignment

The Jays have a week to trade him. After that, he goes on waivers, and a team that claims him would pay him his Major League salary. If he clears waivers, he can be demoted to the minors, as he still has options. If he clears waivers, the Jays are still obliged to pay his Major League salary, even if he plays for them in the minors. If he's released, and another team signs him for 2024, the other team would pay him the Major League minjimum, and the Jays would pay the balance.

I believe that the remainder of this year's salary would not count against the Jays for Salary Cap/ Luxury Tax purposes. Biggio is currently on a one year, $4.21 Million contract, eligible for arbitration in 2025 and free agency in 2026.

And here is my fourth post in a row in this thread. I’m starting to feel like Mitchell76 (which is a great thing)….

And this special message to the white knights that tried to say we traded Hernandez for a good reason -Nice to know that the 1st place Dodgers that have been strategically designed to win the World Series, have Teoscar Hernandez who is good enough to play outfield for them, and who protects the greatest player on the planet in the order. All of this is going on while the Blue Jays just optioned Eric Swanson to AAA Buffalo. So as it currently stands at this exact moment, we traded Teo for nothing. A middle reliever that just got sent to the minors, That trade made me sick from day one… And my sickness has been revitalized. Why the Blue Jays didn’t lock Hernandez up long-term… We will never know.

just saying…

Avert your eyes and don’t watch the highlights of tonight’s Yankees-Dodgers game. Do you think the Jays could use a guy with 47 RBIs?

First I thought you were one of those white knights, against Hernandez but clearly it’s sarcasm…..

Teo was cooling off for a bit but there goes 15 Home runs and 47 RBIs in less than half the games played. In 66 games to be exact. It’s sickening as “Swansy” is in AAA.

I hate to say it but I told all of you assholes from day one… It was a bad trade!

I’m joking nobody is an asshole. I’m just so goddamn passionate about Hernandez lol. But hey look on the bright side, Swanson gets to eat Buffalo wings after the game with 22-year-olds in some Buffalo Sabres themed Tavern.

This is beautiful. Hernandez has now passed Ohtani for the Dodger team lead in home runs with 16. Huge series and he stepped it up. Performing in the big lights. Once again, performing on the big stage. But more importantly, Eric Swanson needs to pass the blue cheese for the buffalo wings…. as he throws nothing but cheese to begin with lol.

I feel bad for him but I’m actually happy this happened. How much longer were we going to wait to see if he ever becomes anything. He wasn’t earning playing time and he’s 30 years old. Enough enough.

I'm glad we have Horwitz up. You can't have guys with a .456 OBP playing in the minors when your offence sucks. He deserves to get the PT of guys like Biggio and Vogelbach.

That being said I would have demoted/DFA'd Vogelbach and kept Biggio as the utility guy. Horwitz is the guy that takes their PT either way, but Biggio as the 12th-13th guy on the offence offers more versatility than Vogelbach in that role.

That being said I'm in no way upset about it, just my preference. Some people on social media are going nuts over Biggio leaving, and in particular over Vogelbach.

I don’t understand how Calvin comes from such amazing bloodline, yet his main objective is going to the plate with a good eye and taking a walk.

A big part of Craig Biggio's game was drawing walks / getting plunked at incredibly high rates. But he could hit as well. Being patient is not a bad thing but Cavan seemed paralyzed up there at times with 2 strikes.

In the second half of last year Cavan Biggio actually played really well with this targeting walks "approach". He had over a .400 OBP which is extremely valuable. I think scouting teams though figured out his laying off approach, and adjusted their approach with 2 strikes. And Cavan couldn't adjust,
