They mentioned on the radio that Encarnacion is the 8th Blue Jay to hit 40 HR in a season. I can only come up with seven:
Edwin Encarnacion
Jose Bautista
Carlos Delgado
Tony Batista
George Bell
Jose Canseco
Shawn Green

Who was the eighth?

Was at the Dome on the weekend. Gose was worth the price of admission. Hope he can hit for average. Defensively, he is ready now. On the base paths greased lightning. Watching him live completely different than on TV.

I've been impressed too

Wow! This season has turned plain ugly.

What an embarrassment... it looks like they won't even win 70 games.

I have been saying it for a while: there is more here than meets the eye. There is a problem at the management level... there is still so much talent on the field but, obviously, very little incentive.

I wonder if Farrell is really the manager he was/is supposed to be. Look at what Showalter and Melvin have been able to do with much lesser -- at least on paper -- talent.

Is Alex A the guy we thought he was ?
I am beginning to wonder.

Well, AA's job is to acquire the talent and he seems to have done a pretty good job.

It is up to the manager to motivate and get maximum effort from his players.

I have not heard anything about discontent in the clubhouse or whether or not the players get along with and put out for their manager... but those problems are usually well hidden until one or more players speak out.

I don't know... but there are reasons to question! Every team has problems with injuries and no one was expecting the BJ's to shine with all the problems they have had... but such a total collapse?

Bring Cito back!
I think Cito works well with veterans, not sure about him and a young team.

There certainly has to be concern about the current manager, I want to give him a mullican because of the injury situation......but....
you can't ignore the fact this team has virtually packed it in. Effort is at best suspect.

Jays have won very few 1 run games and those games are the games managers are paid to win. I think the ratio of wins to losses in 1 run
games exceeds 2:1.

Has Farrell ever come out aned said I don't want the Boston job? I haven't heard anything other than "I'm under contract to the Blue Jays."
If Boston wants him, get as much as you can for him and wish him luck.

Good point about bringing up AA . He may know his baseball ( although it can be questioned ) but does he have a strong enough personality that when he talks everyone listens ? It maybe just me but when he talks to ball players does he have their respect when he looks like somebody that just came out of school ?

It seems to me that Bob McCowan was ruthless when he was talking to AA about the incident that happened last week and I believe that he would have not talked like that to Burke, Colengelo or even Beeston .

I think the team and Farrell have simply stopped trying and are just mailing it in over the last few weeks.

Time to start thinking about next year.

You know the baseball gods hate you when your closer is trapped in the bullpen because the gate won't open.

I go with that.

They played hard and were relatively competitive. The injuries caught up with them because their "depth" was too young.

They were riding high on their enthusiasm but once they could see there was no hope, they played that way. It would have been nicer to see them keep playing hard but once you have your hopes dashed it's not hard to understand the deflation.

Still lots of work to be done in the off season (the adversity should help them learn who they can and cannot count on) but as they say "hope springs eternal". Young team, anything can happen. Maybe the J's can be next year's O's and the A's.

It is not just the collapse but, the mental errors. If it was just the poor play of the players who are filling in for the injured I would not care, but the poor play of veterans(or at least players who should know better by now) which has me concerned.

It could be that Farrell is now in looking toward next year mode and just sitting back and seeing who is thinking and who is out to lunch.
I hope Farrell is the guy and sticks around for a decade or so ... leading the Jays to several World Series wins. :thumb:

Poor Romero. The 2nd inning is a mess. Lawrie and Escobar didn't dive to knock the ground ball down to keep it in the infield. Then Romero himself threw wide to 1B on a hopper. Now a hits batsman. Bases loaded.

In the end Jays win and finally Romero get the monkey off his back.(at least I hope he has!)
Amazing 5 run lead in the 9th and I was wondering if they would win!

OK, if I have to, I'll pat myself on the back... :biggrin1:

It didn't take long for Vizquel and Lind to come out with it and for Farrell to have to face it...

Do they read TERB?

So yes, there are managerial issues at play here... and I think Farrell's responses are weak!

Is anyone calling to or from Boston?
