Knowing the Leafs luck, they can construct the team the be playoff-heavy and hit until the other team crawls but they still won't win the cup. Burke built the Leafs on size and truculence and they failed.

The problem with Canadian teams, you don't win by being risk averse. Rick Tochet appears to be the only one that understands that concept.

He was unlucky there, but there had to be the element of luck for the streak to have gone as long as it did. Luck usually balances itself out in the long run. If continues to put as much effort into his game, I’m sure there’ll be other streaks down the line.
Both Tavares and Marner have another year after this with no movement provisions. If they do resign Nylander, there’ll be even less cap space to improve the defence which imho is not good enough to contend.
