My ex-wife's cousin married a Iranian Jew whose parents left Iran soon after the Shah of Iran was deposed in under the Iranian Revolution of 1979. His parents moved to Israel for a couple of years, and then emigrated to Canada.
His parents used to tell me how beautiful and wonderful Iran was under the Shah, and how much and rapidly it deteriorated once the Shah was deposed. Under the Shah Jews were welcome in Iran, and during his reign there was great modernization. Wikipedia has a lot of information regarding that modernization, but also the factors that led to the Revolution and its causes. Post-revolution, Jews were not nearly as welcome in Iran.
