Simmons better not show up in the dressing room, he's going to get the same treatment that Doug Gilmour gave to that loudmouth from TSN who ended up working for 96.3 easy classics.

I assume you mean John Gallagher?? That guy has pissed off so many people and burned so many bridges, its a miracle somebody still gave him a job :D

He got into tiffs with the Znaimer's, George Bell, Cito Gaston, half the Leaf team etc......etc. Too many people to mention.

At least his hair transplant is holding up well

Edwin's power numbers are far greater than Cola's and he has a proven multi year track record. No way is Edwin going to be traded. If he was, Smoak would play 1B and Cola would be the regular DH.

Goins ended up the season hitting about .250. That's significantly better than .225 and puts Goins among the median of middle infielders. He was also improving noticeably towards the end of the regular season, which leads one to think he could be a .270 hitter at some point.

you should watch a little more baseball before posting your thoughts.
goins is a lifetime .234 hitter and will be 28 before the start of next year, when is this at some point you speak of? Edwin should be full time dh or be traded when his value is high, cola could win a batting title playing full time, he's earned it.

Trade edwin and tulo for a shorty and two quality starters.

goins doesn't even have manny lee numbers, lifetime .234 avg and .281 obp, great call on goins mr. baseball almighty.

he can't even foul one off in the playoffs against top starters, .087, that aint no slump

Steve Simmons did a hatchet job on Joey Bats in the sports section of the Sun today. He hasn't gotten over Bautista shaming him on Twitter, but he asked for it. Sure he plays with anger, we wouldn't want any other way. But to suggest that he's selfish is out of line. If that were the case he would have left the Jays already, probably for the Red Sox. Simmons better not show up in the dressing room, he's going to get the same treatment that Doug Gilmour gave to that loudmouth from TSN who ended up working for 96.3 easy classics.

pro athletes like to surround themselves with yes men and ass kissing reporters who throw them beach ball questions, and don't respond well to criticism. Simmons was accurate in his column, last year was antho's fault and it's always the umpires fault when he strikes out. This is joeys time, let's see what he's got.

A lot of fans look at these guys like god like heroes when they're really self centred jerks.

So you too think Goins should start ahead of Goins??

Simple question, yes or no??

Goins is just completing his first full season in MLB and improved markedly over the last 2 months. Plenty of room for upside. And most hitters are hitting for somewhat lower averages this year than in times past. Source of much debate by TV commentators.

Goins actually had a higher average than Tulo as a BJ. Is he as good as player all round? Not now, maybe not ever. But Tulo will attract more on the trade market and costs more salary. So given the choice between 2 guys hitting badly?...

Plus I am concerned that Tulo's slump is so extended. Revere couldn't hit for a couple of weeks after being traded. Then hit like he always has.

Plus you need to open the roster so Devon Travis can play regularly.

He can't start ahead of himself. So it's not really a simple yes / no question.

Another two-bit oped guy trying to be "controversial". They're a dine a dozen. He's probably banned himself from the BJ's club house for life with that article.

Nope, a Tulo/Travis infield should be a lock for next few years with Goins playing a bench role (assuming he's ok with that).

A "slumping" Tulo hitting .239 is still miles better than Goins

Ok, explain this. If Goins hits .250 with 45 RBI (his actual stats), how is Tulo hitting .239 "miles better" than Goins? Because you like Tulo's haircut better?

Tulo had about 1/3 the # of AB's as Goins and hit 17 RBI. That would extrapolate to 51 RBI, 6 more than Goins.

Have you ever contemplated making those type of opinions, after all it has been 14 years and 20,000 posts?

Tulo has MUCH better homerun power, better on-base percentage and a better slugging average. Tulo is also slightly better defensively (although this is debatable)

Remember that Goins was offensively far less effective at the beginning of the season and steadily improved.

And he just drove in 2 clutch playoff runs like a boss!

Leave the speculation and player quality debate to after we win the WS guys. Right now every Blue Jay is an All Star.....until one becomes a goat anyway.
