Just a hunch on my part:

Some players have fragile egos and Reyes may be one of them. The only other thing that makes sense to me is Jays don't want to take the bat out of the line up.
I'm with you, with the errors Reyes is making I think Goins as a defensive replacement makes perfect sense.
I think your right , according to the Bocat, Reyes is so sensitive that Gibby has to handle him with kid gloves. Still if your being paid by W/L I wouldn't care how sensitive a player is if he is a defensive liability then he's being replaced in the late innings. Gibby does it to the outfielders and 1rst base so piss on his ego...sit him late in the game!

Your not comparing Jeters defense to Reyes, are you?
I think Jeter is a better SS than Reyes. IMHO.
Not according to advanced statistics.
While Jose Reyes is a less than average defensive shortstop (over the past 3 years),
the last 3 seasons of Jeter's career were just dreadful.
What Jeter could get to, he tended to make the play, but he had very limited range.

Don't forget, Jeter was 39 when he retired and coming back from a seriously broken ankle. How old is Reyes 32, IMHO at 39, 38, 37 ,36 Reyes will not be as good as Jeter was at those ages

That wasn't the discussion (age), it was who is a better
(or, in this case, less worse) defensive shortstop.

It does when you compare Jeters last 3 years after coming off a broken leg, you can't compare a 39 year old to a 32 year old. IMO Reyes is worse at 32 than Jeter when Jeter was 32.

The limited range can be tolerated. It is booting balls right at him....and making poor low throws to first on routine grounders. We used to yell at players to bear down. bear down Jose

BINGO! that is exactly his problem, we would say " shake it off ". Reyes shaking off his errors, if you gave him the ingredients you would have one hell of a Margarita!

Reyes 65 games 12 errors....... Donaldson 87 games 12 errors.

IMO Donaldson should not have been charged with an error on the throw last night, cement glove should have had that. Reyes errors in some cases appear to be from lacadaisical effort and are very frustrating. No question Reyes is not the SS he once was and the Jays will need to address that soon. He can still hit and his legs are at worst decent so he might make someone a decent DH and reserve infielder.

Exactly the reason why he should be pulled for defensive porpoises in the late innings, provided he's not coming up to bat.
All of this is mute, 22m now and for the next 2 years pretty much makes him the SS for the foreseeable future so he better start talking to doc Phil and get used of being pulled in the late innings.

Derek Jeter broke his ankle, not his leg.

If Reyes is going to be pulled for an aquatic animal in late innings, I'd prefer an octopus to a porpoise.
Let's talk about it, no need to be mute.

Maybe we could trade for Trout? Gibby would play him at ss to get his bat in the lineup.

They should think about keeping Colabello out of the first base position. He can't do the job properly.
His brain isn't capable of processing challenging or unusual fielding situations directed at him.
Colabello is an odd duck. He's still young enough and he can smack the ball nicely; but, he can't field anywhere.

Last night Donaldson threw a ball to him that bounced 9 feet or so in front of him and came in knee high at his glove and he fumbled and dropped the ball leading to an un earned run and that may have been the turning point in A's winning the game.
Smoak is a vacuum machine for bouncers thrown to first base like that. A major league first baseman has got to be able to make that play.
