And E.E. controls whether he stays or goes.
So it really doesn't matter if the Blue Jays are able to set up a trade, it's E.E.'s decision.

Smoak is a switch hitter
Right, but I seen him kill upper deck homeruns hitting left-handed , so what difference does it make if he's not a natural leftie????

You can say he's a natural Rightie, and he might hit a few more homers or hits, but thats all relative if you platoon him with CocaCola

It doesn't make sense to trade any member of The Fearsome Threesome (The Real Donald, Joey Boom Bats, Senor Papagallo), it would be self-defeating.

And I'm not sure moving Sanchez into the bullpen is the answer. Too bad Storman got injured. He would have gotten us a few extra wins.

They signed Joba Chamberlain to a minor league deal today. Good move since there is zero risk.

AA dumpster diving again , Jays signed Joba Chamberlain to a minor league deal today.
He's still only 29 and had a good year for the Tigers last year. Will pitch at AAA Buffalo.

Also the Tigers have put David Price on the trade market. He'll be a free agent this offseason.
That should lower the price on guys like Cueto and Hamels.

Jeff Blair said on the radio today he thinks the Jays might trade Devon Travis for a pitcher.

Damn right! He and Pillar are the future of the team!

3 games back of WC, as Twins are losing again. Boston should be finally out of it, as they have slumped badly all over again.

The Jays can realistically get that WC spot with the team they have now. But they wont go very far in playoffs without a trade or two

I like Pillar but he is not "the future of the team. Works hard, but reminds me of Reed Johnson in many ways. He will be around for a while but if he is the future of this team the future isn't very bright. Solid secondary players are important, but they won't make a team contend, they will complement the other pieces, such as the Devon Travis', Josh Donaldsons and Jose Bautistas. There are Stroman, Sanchez, and a few others who are a lot more valuable than Pillar.

Here
The BJ's have had a problem filling the 2B position for years... I think it would be foolish to trade away Travis, who has excellence written all over him and is a long term solution. Goins has improved but his hitting is still inadequate for a 2B and he is much more valuable as a SS and utility infielder.

Of course the BJ's need an ace... desperately. But you don't solve a problem by creating another of equal proportion.

I still think either Colabello or Smoak will be traded. Maybe Carrera and/or Valencia, too, as valuable as Valencia has been.... maybe even Goins if anyone wants him at this stage.

Get you bets down, folks... AA is about to roll the dice and we will see if he throws a 7 or snake eyes!

This is a excellent thread but way to long to read everything so if what I'm about to say has already been said then forgive me.
Why doesn't Gibby replace Reyes with Goins in the late innings for difference purposes when there is no chance of Reyes coming to bat. I think that Goins is a better defensive SS than Reyes.

If the Jays are going to trade for a ace they will have to give up some young talented pitcher in return...I hear Norris is the one they are willing to trade.

Just a hunch on my part:

Some players have fragile egos and Reyes may be one of them. The only other thing that makes sense to me is Jays don't want to take the bat out of the line up.
I'm with you, with the errors Reyes is making I think Goins as a defensive replacement makes perfect sense.

According to Mike (I know Everything) Wilner, it's for the same reason the Yankees didn't replace Jeter in late innings. (Read Ego).
