I disagree. Think the Jays have some intriguing trade prospects in the minors right now - Castro, Pompey, Reid Foley, Pentecost, Jimenez, Norris, Boyd, Lugo, Tirado, Nay. The only one I would be very hesitant to give up is Jeff Hoffman.

I for one am glad they didn't trade for Kazmir. I'd prefer a Latos, Shields, Samardzija, Cashner and I'd absolutely cream my pants if we got Cueto. Another guy I think the Jays should look at is Julio Teheran who the Braves are shopping. He's only 24 having a subpar year but has amazing stuff. Braves are looking for some bats, we have them.
Aside from medium-term health issues, what's not to like w Kazmir?! Have you seen the guy's numbers?! Fucking unbelievable!

This was exactly the guy we need and AA could have beat A's down, just like Houston did. AA fucked up on this.

One week left till trading deadline
Relatively meaningless.

Players can be traded after July 31, after passing through waivers.

Unless something has changed in recent years,
players on MLB rosters on August 31 are playoff eligible.

Anybody knows that D.Price had a winning record against the Yanks? If he does, then Jays should dangle 3 top prospects for Price. Provided Price WILL sign a long term deal to stay in Canada! I would send Norris,Castro and a position player prospect.
Jays have 13 games left against the front runner Yanks after non-waiver deadline July 31. If I were AA I will be looking for pitchers who could handle the likes of Texeira and Ellesbury of the Yanks.
Price is a rental and you would be stupid to give up 3 prospects for a guy that is probably going elsewhere next year. There are guys out there that can help that won't deplete your farm. Hamels Cueto and Price are guys I do not expect to see in a Jays uniform. The cost of getting anyone of those guys will take your farm system apart.

If I were the BJ's GM, I'd try very, very hard to get Aroldis Chapman -- provided his contract can be extended through 2016 or 2017. He has really impressed, especially at the ASG.

That would give the BJ's time to stretch out Sanchez and insert him back into the rotation. Then if Stroman can/does come back in September, that would really give them a shot at the post season with a team that could win it all.

[Edit]: The fly in this ointment is that, apparently, Chapman is not available at any price... :frusty:

The trading deadline is most meaningful. Any proposed trades thereafter must go through waivers, which means that any other club can claim the traded player for the meager waiver price.
It is a highly risky maneuvre fraught with unintended consequences. I would doubt that players like Johnny Cueto or Aronis Chapman would get through while passing through the waiver machines of twenty-eight other teams. That would include the rival teams like the Yankees and Baltimore. Those teams would never allow the Jays to improve themselves if they had a chance to ruin the transaction via a waiver claim.

A fluke occurred in 1992 when somehow, and no one knows why, David Cone was unclaimed when they acquired him in August for Jeff Kent.

Yup.

Although the latter is pretty rare

Everything considered -- the need, who is available, the cost, the incremental benefit -- I believe the BJ's have much more to gain from a new manager than from any players they can add.

But that is most likely to fall on AA's deaf ears...

Ah, well... as soon as the sun is over the yardarm I will go and cry in my beer...

The Jays playoffs drought might continue on for another year and beyond. Jays should go after T.Leiweke and ask him to take over the organization. He's done a good job sofar with TFC and Raps. TFC could make the playoff for the first time in franchise history this season. Leiweke was alson responsible from hiring Shanahan of the Leafs. So far so good with the Leafs management structure. But, we will have to wait for awhile to see either the Leafs or the Jays make it into the playoffs.

Has anyone noticed that the Yankees - despite a loss last night - are pulling away in the division? It is probably far better to sell rather than buy right now. Keep Hoffman and Norris and Castro..wait for Guerrero Jr. and get another couple hot prospects. I advocate trading EE to a contender because I like EE and would like to see him in the post season...and we have other bats and options to play first, dh and bat fourth.

And revamp the coaching staff and get a new manager. When we get grass at the dome - we will win it all

And another thing... with 64 games left in the schedule, a .500 club does not become a contender by adding another pitcher, not even a genuine ace. Adding a star is only useful when a team is already in contention but needs that extra push to maintain or gain momentum... 2 great pitchers, maybe... but in today's player market that would mean selling the farm.

Had the BJ's been 5 or 6 games over .500 at this stage, it would be a different story. In fact, other than their 11 game streak, the BJ's are and consistently have been a sub .500 team... over the past 3 years or so, they have proved to be incapable of going 41/23 or 42/22 the rest of the way.

Sorry, but it is déjà vu all over again, folks...

The only positive I can see from the present situation is that we will have a new manager next year... maybe a new GM too!

Edwin was one of the few Jays last night who left no runners on base in his AB's........

Gibby shows his innate genius and intimate grasp of the game's subtleties by PH-ing Carrerra who hits a game tying 2 run blast.
