When I first heard/read about the trade, I had similar thoughts. Looking at it again, there are better pitchers out there that you can get for prospect(s) such as San Diego's James Shields. Better pitcher and not a rental, and the contract is not crazy stupid like some of them out there.
I hope AA does something, without giving away the farm.

I was listening to Zauno on T&S last night and he's right, Jays just dont have a whole lot of trade bait to work with in the minors.

Only Jays they could trade are Reyes, EE and Jose but they have vetos. And I doubt any team really wants them anyway.

I hate to say it but barring some late season miracle run this team is built for the future

Today's news: A's asking price was Daniel Norris. Say,if AA bites and sent Norris to get Kazmir and Jays win the East. Would you think rolling out 3 SP's consist of Buerhle, Dickey and Kazmir a scary lineups in the post season? Jays don't have a stud pitcher and that's what they are working on to get right now. Otherwise, we will take a chance on next year starting pitchers of Hoffman,Stroman,Norris and full of other kids. You don't have to go far and look at successful MLB's teams model. Jays are trying to copy the success of on field products teams like KC and the Rays.

The farm systems could be bared after trades with the Marlins&Mets. AA is gun shy this time around. He gambled and he lost so he may not like to go for 'it' again this time!

Yes, as a boost to try to get us over the hump this year... but as much as everyone wants playoff action this year, a competent GM has to think both of the present and the future of the team.

Anybody knows that D.Price had a winning record against the Yanks? If he does, then Jays should dangle 3 top prospects for Price. Provided Price WILL sign a long term deal to stay in Canada! I would send Norris,Castro and a position player prospect.
Jays have 13 games left against the front runner Yanks after non-waiver deadline July 31. If I were AA I will be looking for pitchers who could handle the likes of Texeira and Ellesbury of the Yanks.

I disagree. Think the Jays have some intriguing trade prospects in the minors right now - Castro, Pompey, Reid Foley, Pentecost, Jimenez, Norris, Boyd, Lugo, Tirado, Nay. The only one I would be very hesitant to give up is Jeff Hoffman.

I for one am glad they didn't trade for Kazmir. I'd prefer a Latos, Shields, Samardzija, Cashner and I'd absolutely cream my pants if we got Cueto. Another guy I think the Jays should look at is Julio Teheran who the Braves are shopping. He's only 24 having a subpar year but has amazing stuff. Braves are looking for some bats, we have them.

Jays need to trade for outfielders help as well if you guys haven't noticed. Jay Bruce or Ichiro Suzuki? Jays have no competent RF as we speak.
Do you know something we don't know, or did you mean LF?

If you meant LF, it is true that it looks as if Saunders is unlikely to be back this year... but I think Pompey would be more than adequate and better than a trade even if he does not hit his weight -- so long as he does not let his hitting affect his defence.

Valencia and Carrerra are "competent", more or less. Valencia indeed shows traces of "quite good" from time to time. Cola is shit-awful. But again, all are excellent offensively. It's the Reyes trade-off.

I probably wouldn't. There are rumours of arm problems with Kazmir. Norris wouldn't have been a good deal. But Houston gave mid level prospects, not blue chip AAA studs.
