Can you show where I 'puttind' a spin on any of the actual games over these past few weeks ?
I do believe when it came to the game, whichever game in question, I have been calling a spade, a spade.
As for the 'spin' on the team now and then(pre2009) I see general improvement. Unfortunately it is not showing on the ice.
Here is a 'spin' on last night's game .... at least they scored. It is the best I could do.
Reimer has lost it, hasn't been the same since his injury.
I like what I saw of Ashton last night myself.
What a disaster this turned out to be, and of course the haters are suddenly back after taking the first half of the season off.
So much promise and now ... it would be more beneficial to the team to lose rather then win the remaining games. That said it is not the best draft year to say the least, but you never know when or where that gem can come from.
The Leafs do not have that fifth gear, the one that only kicks in at this time of a season. reach down to do whatever it takes to win. For awhile it looked like none of the teams around the Leafs had that gear, which is part of the reason the Leafs held onto the final playoff spot for so long during the current losing skid. It is why I thought the Leafs would hold onto the spot. I figured by the time the other teams start winning so would the Leafs. Hah, joke was on me and Leaf Nation in that one.
Tonight I see Stamkos scoring two, maybe even three, in leading Tampa to a win, edging them closer to the final playoff spot. At this point I am just hoping for minimal damage, no obvious, glaring errors. Go out and at least look like you care.

With a new coach in place, at this point of the season, the Leafs are really working towards next season. Carlyle is looking at what he has to work with and will put in his wish list for next year. The players know that they are in a try-out too. Guys with contracts don't really want to move, unless they are really unhappy here, because it is disruptive to your family. The ones coming up for contract renewal are in the same boat. The kids in the minors now see a chance under the new coach to take a roster spot. I think you'll see some better hockey down the stretch, spoiler hockey, when they ramp it up to secure their future with the Leafs or possibly another team in the show.
I hear you, I get it. That is what a lot of teams do when they find themselves in the same position, play for a spot on next season's team, a new contract(re-sign or elsewhere), for pride and of course the ever famous spoiler role. However, two games in a row with zero goals, one of those were the Caps, then the performance against Florida ?
Yes the Leafs are spoilers alright, spoiling it for any team fighting against the teams that have games against the Leafs.
You have to remember, they worked Wilson's system for how long? and now they are using Carlyle's system, not rocket science for anyone who's been around the game, but the Leafs really lack some size and skill upfront and a real second line. Hell, their first line is shit some nights. An uphill battle for this group.
Lot's of Leaf nation were on here taking shots at the Habs when they were sliding to the bottom of the standings.
Now I'm not hearing boo from them as they are joining them in the basement.
This is why as a Sens fan I haven't been saying squat about their success all year. You never know when the tide is going to turn.

Their new coach has certainly turned things around for them. Started off the year in bad shape, but they have certainly turned it around. Maybe Carlyle can do the same, but he'll need a little more talent on the team.

Take lessons from the Sens and Habs fans. When your team tanks and the owners don't care then take your entertainment dollars elsewhere. That will happen at the end of this year in Montreal. I was at the recent Laffs-Habs game in Montreal and the atmosphere in the stands was "I am not going to be able to afford supporting losers". even when they get a French coach the Habs are going to have a long hill to climb to convince the fans to comeback. The Sens in recent years have had to discount tickets when the on ice performance was at Laffs level. Only when hit in the wallet do the owners do anything to improve the team.
Logic therefore does not bode well for any improvement in the LAFFS;
1. There will always be bums in every seat or at least every seat will be sold to a bum.
2. As long as the seats are always sold the owners will not spend to improve things.
The Laffs fans will always be supporting a loser.
In the meantime the Sens will be in post-season play. Again.

This season has been a complete distaster, worse than I could have imagined.
I am not necessarilly surprised they will miss the playoffs, as I expected it would be a struggle to do so, but there is less reason for optimism now than there was going into the season. Reimer has been terrible. Phanuef hasn't been very good. Schenn and Kadri are beginning to develop that stench of a bust. The "prospects" look less valuable now than they did before with the exception of Gardiner. Aside from he, Lupul and Kessel, it's been a colussal failure top to bottom.
This team looked to me to be another 2-3 years from being a contender. Now it feels like they're five years at least.
I have defended Burke but now even I can't see any reason for hope. It may be time to blow it all up and start over. :frusty:

Total fallacy! Owners have always been willing to spend. Problem is the people appointed to spend that money have spent foolishly.
I have very little love for MLSE and The Teachers Pension Plan but they put up the money, the GMs have just done a downright shitty job of utilizing it.
MayDay, I agree with you on Kadri, but I think Schenn will get better under Carlyle's guidance. Gardiner is looking like a good find and time will tell with Ashton. Pahneuf is over-rated, but I think that's because he tries to do too much, he's not that tough, shouldn't try fighting as much as he does and should try playing better "D" as he is often out of position or getting in his goalies way. Lupul has shown what kind of player he is and that 's a bright spot, now the media just has to stop asking the stupid questions about him and Carlyle in their Anaheim days about a non-existent rift. Reimer, send him down for seasoning, time to ride the buses again.

I am here. I have been posting. I have let up on Montreal because they have been staying out of the media spotlight lately. One can only mention the non-french coach and the fact that the organization threw him under the bus so many times.

Glad to see the old Reimer back. He is way better than the Monster and hopefully now the coach now realizes this.
Is it me or does it sometimes look like the Leafs are trying to lose? Open nets and they are going for the pass?
The Leafs usually play well in late March and April when there is no hope of making the playoffs.
