Tomorrow afternoon(5:00) at Washington. Do not know what to expect from the Caps. Will the Leafs get the team that does not care or the team vying for a playoff spot ?
If the playoff are out of the question for the Leafs now, then they can be spoilers.

Let's worry about the Flyers tonight before the Caps tomorrow. Leafs need this win to stay above 500. This season looked so promising and now it sucks!

The Toronto Maple Leafs are 7 games under .500 (30-30-7), they have won 30 games this season, and lost 37.

I'm not much for the new math, but accordin to my cipherin', that's well below the breakeven point.

The drive for the 4th overall pick has begun.

I believe I am correct in saying they have 67 of a possible 134 points which is 500. However, from a W-L you are correct
and I humbly bow to mathematical expertise!

True enough, in Gary's magic 3 point world, they have 67 of a possible 134 points, a .500 point percentage, however,
their actual winning percentage is .448 .

Wouldn't it make sense if all game were played for 3 points? win out right 3 points, tie or shoot out winner gets 2 loser gets 1.???????

You know why your suggestion would never be accepted?

It makes too much sense!

Gary Bettman's NHL is like Animal Farm, all games are equal, but some games are more equal than others, 2 points good, 3 points better.

A team with an equal number of wins and losses is destined for the bottom quarter of the league. Hardly the intended meaning of a ".500 team".

The Leafs are unlucky, I get the impression that Harvey "Busher" Jackson put a curse on them.

Take this into consideration; Borje Salming arrived a decade too early. If he was around at the turn of the millennium the Leafs would have won the Cup in either 01 or 02. That has been their biggest problem, they've never had a horse on the blue line and they've consistently chewed up goaltenders because of it. Since Salming left in 1989 they've never replaced him - not even close!

They should tank the remainder of the season and draft the best possible defensive prospect.

Isn't this against the rules of sportsmanship and unfair to other teams still in the playoff race? The Leafs should try their best and let the chips fall where they may.

The Leafs treated Harvey "Busher" Jackson unfairly. It is rumoured that his ghost is still standing outside old Maple Leaf Garden begging for spare change. Also, that Smythe(sp) wouldn't allow Busher into the HOF until after he passed.

There's always someone who says this. Do you really expect a team to do this? Firstly it is frowned upon by the league as you must ice the best team possible in every game. That's why you don't see a roster of AHLers playing, even for first place teams because the fans are paying to see NHLers play.
Secondly; Do you think a guy that's coming up on free agency, fighting for a roster spot next year or a new contract is going to tank it? He'd be cutting his own throat for any team thinking of picking him up.
When the final buzzer sounds, that's where you end up in rankings for draft picks.

This team doesn't know how to tank ... If they started to tank they might go on a winning streak . If they play for a playoff spot they extend their losing streak

Gustavsson showed the early season form again last night, earning a shutout. Nail one of a few missed opportunities and it would have been a win for the Monster. The Leafs eventually lost in a shootout.
MacArthur and Crabb played a good game.
With Lupul out of the line up teams can really zero in on Kessel.
I like what I see from Ashton so far.
Grabovski seems more focused since resigning.
The future, beyond this season, is looking good.

I'm quite surprised and curious at how coach has put him out for 4 straight games already.

Here's my theory. I think this is his final audition. Let him play a lot while the games are still somewhat meaningful to eliminate the intermittent playing time argument and see what he's got.

I think Reimer is still in their long term plan but JG is a bigger question mark due to his extremely erratic/inconsistent play.

I'm not surprised. I was shocked when they signed Reimer at the end of last season. He was still an unproven everyday NHL tender from the ECHL. He started the year good, but I believe that even without that collision by that dirty Hab, he would have still fallen apart. I think in time he will reagin his form, but as for being a number one goalie in this league, I think not.

I think they'll give him a Mulligan for this year.

Second year has notoriously been rough on goalies. Whether one will end up being a #1 will depends on how they bounce back...some do and some don't. Don't forget Gustavsson had a horrible season last year as well. Price was another example of a poor second season and bounced back strong. Another former Leaf Raycroft was one that didn't quite recover. The Reimer/Gustavsson situation kinda reminds me of the Price/Halak situation...if we would be so lucky!!!

The Leafs signed Reimer to a three year deal at $1.8 per. If he does not work out they can eat the remaining two years and not even blink. If turns out to be an NHL goalie, they have him for two more years and he will still be an RFA.
Whether or not he would have preformed the way he started all season does not really matter, I think he would have gone a few more games, at least, before he hits a skid and that may be the difference now between 12th/13th and seventh/eighth.
