You know on Monday I thought the guy was an idiot and jerk.
On Tuesday when I heard he lost his job I though it was extreme but he still had it coming.
On Wednesday when MLSE banned him I thought okay we get it he did a horrible thing.

Now with every politician in Canada deciding to chime in, international news sources reporting it, and feminist bloggers pretty much claiming he is a rapist in waiting, I am thinking jeez lay off the guy already.

It gets to the point on social media these days where people pile on and vilify someone it actually makes him seem like the victim.

By the way, the guy, Simoes, is not an Engineer. I checked the PEO website and he is not a licensed engineer in Ontario. Lots of people call themselves Engineers, but they are not. (Sanitation Engineers, the guys who drive trains, work in the engine rooms of ships, etc.)

Sounds like he's some sort of network monkey, from what little I've been able to gather. Not an engineer, and not in management (the "management" in the job title likely refers to fixing the damn computer network when it goes haywire, not managing employees)

What really grinds my gears is a guy with a job like that (and the lofty qualification of an undergrad biz degree from WLU) made the Sunshine list. No wonder the provincial treasury is fubar.

I sort of agree with AK-47, there has been tremendous and unmerited over-reaction to this incident. Everything and everybody can potentially be thrown down the always hungry gaping maw of social media.

You're missing the point, I'm much more concerned with erosion of free speech and the PC police who are given way too many powers nowadays. I also find trial by social media and social justice warriors very dangerous to our freedoms, especially when they get to decide what offensive or not (see Justin Trudeau).

Let me ask you one more question, FC. What if those TFC guys had called her a "fat fuck", do you think they shouldve lost their jobs over that as well??

You would have my support if we were talking about a freedom of speech case that was meaningful. Shouting lewd comments to interrupt someone at work was not the intent of freedom of speech.

Read an article on yahoo that listed five cases of people who lost their job due to non work incidents. Most interesting was an officecworker at a school who did porn in the past.

Can you provide an example where the pc police as you call them stomped on someone you could respect?

It's a rude thing to do to anyone. I don't think it rises to the level of sexual harassment but it's uncalled for and impolite. Ask any beautiful woman who lost her looks whether she'd rather be beautiful and have to ward off the occasional unwanted advances or be ignored and you will get a unanimous response. There are few more valuable qualities int his life than beauty, particularly for a woman.

Would a rowdy pack of college age women running up to an attractive male reporter shouting 'suck him right on the pecker!' be deemed amusing or harassing? Probably the former.

Still rude in my books. Manners are a valuable trait in our society that should be more revered. The incident in question is something that should be reviled because it's uncivilized.

There's a difference between having guys flirt with you vs degrading comments thrown at you.

I have a feeling the women you described miss one of those things.

I agree, the outburst isn't directed at the reporter.

It's like someone streaking at a football game but taken to the next level to get a reaction. I remember in high school when someone streaked on the stage during an assembly, the police were called and the student was arrested as well as suspended from class. Overkill reaction.

Does it make any difference whether it is a live broadcast vs taping a clip for later? If live, the station doesn't much control, but if they release a clip that normally would get cut, they took some action.

Think of it this way guys.

It's funny if a bunch of people moon someone.

It isn't if they waggle their dicks at you.

It isn't the fact they disrupted the broadcast but the way they did it. Make a funny face, fine. Mock them, fine.

Sexually harass them? Not acceptable.

Common sense really. This isn't moving the marker towards censorship. This would never have been acceptable ever in any Era.

In fact this type of thing would probably resulted in the guys getting a good thumping and the justice system looking away in the past.
