Yes, all the men on here pilorying Simoes should remember they would also be subject to job loss (and more) if they were filmed indulging in their hobby or even being suspected of involvement with sex workers.
Speak for yourself. I would not be in breach of my employment contract in such circumstances.

I think this case is a great reminder to people that what you do outside of your work can affect your employment status.

Also, you can get fired for things you did prior to ever getting thr job. See the case of the former porn actress.

What you do in s public forum be it tv facebook etc puts you at risk.

I dont think this is a case of political correctness because there was never a time when shouting that phrase was considered okay. Whereas at one point terms like oriental or Negro were considered okay.

Good. It was ridiculous to fire him for a stupid comment made off the job.
A more appropriate punishment would have been a short suspension and sensitivity training. What he did was very rube and obnoxious but not even illegal.

He belongs to a union, can't be fired.

Unions protect the incompetent and ass holes.

Anybody else,... long gone.

Talk about a two tiered system, the average employee, and unionized civil servants,... one tier above,...which the current government is in bed with,...NOT a pleasant thought,...is it.

What exactly makes this guy incompetent? You are so obviously anti union it wouldn't matter though.

Yes I am anti union,...and one of the reasons is,...they protect the incompetent,...and ass holes.

Not only is he an ass hole,... as a responsible human being,...he is also,... incompetent.

But as you are union,...you would have no problem defending him,...so it wouldn't matter though.

Sorry, reinstating him was the right thing to do.

He never actually uttered the FHRITP himself.
He wasnt on company time.
He exercised his freedom of speech.
This never fell under sexual harrassment (get real folks).
He never broke the law in any way

Sure, but was he incompetent at his job? That's the only relevant evaluation of competency when it comes to firing someone.

Many companies have a "code of conduct" which could lead to termination even if someone is competent at their job. Code of conduct usually covers human behavior on and off the job on and off company premises.

Really its not,...but even if he was incompetent at his job,...he still couldn't be fired,...he has "protection",...regardless how he performs.
