I always like to watch the first game to see all the latest game and broadcast technologies on display.

The coverage and quality of video was truly magnificent today. Those camera angles! Could even see the spin of the ball on some of those long goal kicks.

I just turn off the sound and enjoy what I see... and what I am shown that I would otherwise have no way of seeing. Especially those shots after each goal of Putin, Infantino and the Crown Prince... priceless!

And even with a rather unexciting game like today's, there were several very nice plays to remind me why it is called the jogo bonito!

Spain and Portugal tomorrow... that will be much more exciting, I am sure... and Uruguay, too... my cup runneth over!

I remember years ago they had a player with a huge blonde afro. They were good. I think also one of the players was assassinated because of an auto goal or something like that.

Spain Portugal is probably the most exciting game for a while. Uruguay and Egypt also very good, Egypt of course has Salah and Uruguay Suarez and Kavani, they also have other good players. I think Uruguay is going to take this one.

I do remember thinking that Colombia were robbed in that game against Brazil...very biased officiating.

I have to root for England due to the circumstance of ancestry but do have Colombia as my dark horse pick to win the World Cup this year :)

Good start for Russia with one of the biggest opening game winner 5-0. The interesting game will be Portugal v Spain. Who is your choice for that match. Personally, I would like Portugal to win this one, but it could go either way. Also Egypt is a well balanced team with someone like Salah being an impressive player in the English Premier League. Wonder if he is going to be fit to start against Uruguay after that injury versus Real Madrid.

I like Colombia as well. They have real hot cheerleaders that were evident in the final of the Pan Am Games Ladies Soccer in Hamilton. Yes, Colombia is a very young and talented team, but I think that Uruguay and Brazil have a more experienced and balanced team this time.

England will make the playoffs and are a dark horse this time. But their midfield is the not that creative, although they have good goal scorers in Kane and Vardy and can hitters on the counter attack. But I cannot see them winning the World Cup. Their manager is not very experienced either.

Did anyone believe that CR7 would allow himself to be outshined by a coach killer.

Diego Costa may have scored a brace but he's still toxic. It wouldn't be a surprise if Costa got Lupetegui fired, it's what he does. At Chelsea he undermined Antonio Conte as well. I can't take Spain seriously, they haven't replaced inspirational players like David Villa and Xavi.

Milan shouldn't give up on Andre Silva.

Porto/Spain was a very good game, very exciting, Costa did good and Ronaldo did great. Spain dominated it was like watching a Real/Barcelona team, I think considering Portuguese team was a combo of old and new players they deserve credit

I thought the way Morocco started, that they were going to kill Iran, they were very unlucky. It irks me that Iran won.

Uruguay could've done better against Egypt.
