I find myself looking at things so differently when it comes to sports.
In sports I find I like certain teams/countries where as in politics it is turned around ... sort of.

During the past several WC I find I root for these personal top five.
1 Brazil - I always root for them first(well until Canada makes it). My favorite every four years..
2 Germany - I just like these guys. No idea why.
3 England - Politically I cannot stand England having anything to do with Canada. I hate the history and fact we are still tied to that fuckin' country ... yet I always find myself cheer for them anyway. I would even love to visit one day. This bewilders me and my friends.
4 Argentina - Do not know, just do.
5 Cameroon - I do not know how this started. I like these guys for some reason every four years.

In the same way I find myself always rooting against the following teams.
1 United States - Canada's sports rival, but I really like the US in almost every other way. NYC is my home away from home. I love New York City.
2 France - Because it is France. Do you need another reason ?
3 Italy - I used to get a kick out of how bent out of shape my friend's parents(most fathers) got when Italy gets knocked out.
4 Greece - They beat Canada several years ago in some soccer thing, and all the pretend Greeks on the Danforth were cheering like they had defeat a soccer power. Right here in Toronto ... cheering the defeat of Canada.

Go Brazil !

not bought out just a case of bad officiating. In this day and age when we have the technology to look at plays from 37 different angles all in high def, I have no idea why FIFA and the rest of the dinosaur traditionalists are resisting using it, like putting a fifth official in a video booth who has contact with the ref on the field all the time. It certainly would have meant the US would have 4 points now.

I totally agree with you!!!! With all that HD technology, FIFA had to pick a blind guy as a ref who obviously refuse to see massive pushing and punching in front of his face. But also at same time if it's not favored team, they see mosquito and calls it free kick for other team.

What's with those annoying fucking horns at every match? After a few minutes I get a headache and have to turn it off. What kind of imbecile will sit there blowing a horn for the entire match?

If they were so annoying I'm sure somebody would have raised this topic already.

The ref was determined not to let USA win in the game versus Slovenia, the ref blew the whistle as soon as the ball was kicked. That win would have all but eliminated England from the tournament.

France fitness coach walks out after argument with coach Raymond Domenech

Fitness coach walks out of French training

KNYSNA, South Africa — France team director Jean-Louis Valentin says the national team is refusing to train following a dispute on the practice field.

Valentin also says he has resigned from the French football federation, shouting that he was “ashamed” of the team.

The team arrived at training Sunday but a few minutes after taking the field, fitness coach Robert Duverne stormed away from an argument with coach Raymond Domenech. Duverne threw his accreditation badge to the ground after the heated discussion and walked away.

The players then boarded the team bus.

The French team is in disarray after striker Nicolas Anelka was sent home for insulting Domenech, whose tactics and management skills have been called into question.

This is simply the best World Cup by far, the minnows are fighting like mad. New Zealand tied with the Azzurri, to boot they almost got a last minute goal. Another class performance by Brazil. Hoping North Korea can silence the Portugese tomorrow. I don't think it is looking good for England or France.

Portugal 7-North Korea 0, someone at FIFA needs to explain how a team that gets beaten by a touchdown is in the World Cup meanwhile quality sides like Turkey and the Czech Republic are at home.

On a side note anyone seen that free preview of that Euroworld Sports channel? obviously run by the same people as Telelatino, the documentaries of the World Cup are interesting, but the voice overs where they do English than the Italian translation are simply annoying. I dont get what their concept is after the event is over.

It's unfortunate. However I'm not sure how N. Korea could play so lousy and yet do pretty good against Brazil. I can only imagine what's gonna happen to them when they return home.

They could look at the top 32 fifa ranking and have the tournament based on that, but then again it would be arbitrary. Its a tough call.

North Korea played defence against Brazil, 8 guys behind the ball always in the box, every time a Brazilian had the ball 2 or 3 guys would be on him. Against Portugal they went for the attack and well when one team on paper outclasses you, it showed on the scoreboard.

I don't agree. North Korea took the game to the Brazilians as well.

I enjoyed this game, (naturally since I'm Portuguese), but I hope it will also quiet the endless refrain about Portugal being a one man team. That opinion is prevalent, and comes from commentators and analysts who don't trouble to do their job properly. This team is built on a defense that has been rock solid. The trouble, well until today anyway, has been scoring goals. Ronaldo hasn't been decisive for us throughout the whole qualification campaign, (at least not as he is for Real Mardrid).

Friday's game against Brazil may not be the exciting display some are predicting from two creative teams that like to attack. I expect both Brazil and us to mail it in and assure passage to the next round for both. Next games start simultaneously in order to try to avoid the suggestion of collusion, but I think they'll cooperate to Brazil go through at the top of the group.

What's up with Ronaldo. I know he is a bit of a dancing diva, but I think his dribble show-offingness not only made him loose the ball a number of times against the C-List Koreans, he also looked a bit like a buffoon. Man oh man what a goof.
