Video replay would have clearly seen Henry handle the ball in the important qualifying game against Ireland. Unfortunately, we have to suffer watching the french in this tournament. That is one recent example, I could cite many. Football is somewhat fixed and video replay would take that away.
Most people disagree with you. Nobody wants soccer to become like american football or hockey. If you introduce video replay, then you will soon have stoppages for commercials and the sport is Kaput.
Do you also want to allow fighting?

Here
I think most people who dislike soccer or find it boring never played it as kids.

Those of us who have played it appreciate the athleticism, physical conditioning and imagination that is required to play a non-stop game with real skill.

Closest to it, IMHO, is the physical conditioning required for basketball.

My $.02's worth!

I don't think that explains why the only people in the world not loving soccer are americans and canadians. I belioeve it has more to do with the power of advertising. Because you cannot effectively advertise during a soccer match, there is no market for soccer in the US and Canada. Therefore all the little boys playing (and loving it, soryy bic mac) have no heros to see playing on TV. And they lose interest.

Who won the Euro in 2008?

Who has been FIFA ranked either 1 or 2 since that Euro?

Which country has turned a major corner when it comes to cultural and socio/political status?

Which team is the only who recently won all 6 cups they are elgible for?

How many members of that team are capped?

I am gonna have to disagree I would love to see video replays introduced for goals and after the game for officials to see if players intentionally dived. In every industry in the world the right decisions should be made, and why should football be any different? Of course you have to be careful and not turn it into the 15 minute extravaganzas that NFL replays are like. I am really impressed by the tennis eagle eye camera, and that decision takes 5 seconds.

Americans and Canadians will start supporting soccer once they start winning. America has made great inroads in the sport and I believe sooner or later they will get there. The real reason England was upset about the draw, was because they expected to slaughter the relative newcomers.

When I say video replay, I mean a fifth official in a box that can overturn a bad decision. Something that we can clearly see on our TV. Like Scouser said also put an end to the diving in the box.

As long as the rules are that the it is up to the referee to ask for an opinion by the 4th official, and it has to come within 5 seconds, I would agree. As you can plainly see during these games, the absolute authority of the referee is necessary, otherwise complete mayhem will ensure.

Although it's not yet official, Gigi Buffon is OUT of the World Cup.

The FA made a mistake in signing Fabio Capello to a contract extension, Roy Hodgson deserves his chance.

Who is the better poker player Jose Mourinho or Marco Branca? Branca has fired the first shot by stating that none of their players will be sold to Real. And why should they; Internazionale are the richer, better run club.

and once again Spain prove to be what they are, a bunch of under achieving, one hit wonder, looks great on paper individuals!!! I am really hoping they at best finish second in the group then would have to face Brazil in the round of 16, where they would get tossed out of the tourney AGAIN.

I'm not letting them off the hook!
Since the WC expanded to 32 teams in 1998 only 3 of 36 teams that lost their first game have made it out of the first round! Damn right they have work to do. Also, I would be satisfied if Barca simply took their hooks out of Fabregas.

O-LE ... ole, ole, ole

Go Brazil Go !

I think they thought they were going to blow out Korea. Brazil were lucky to come away with the 2-1 win. Yes Korea played a good defensive game, but to me Brazil were too nonchalant in the first half.

So, according so some of these ignorant posts on this board, soccer would be better if there were commercials every 2 minutes, stoppages, fights, the pitch was shrunk down to the size of a hockey rink to create more goal scoring chances, and the players wore pads over their entire body so they can charge wrecklessly into each other at full speed.

Say what ?
Where did you get that idea ? I think what the poster meant was in order to make it more popular here the game of soccer would have to bend a little, whether or not that would happen remains to be seen.

Just because the game is played a certain way does not mean there is no room for improvement.
No stop time probably developed because back in the day they did not have the ability to stop the clock and now it is just tradition.

I happen to think that a one&ahalf / two minute stop midway through each half is fine and would not hurt the game. Stopping time for dives ... or injuries ... is fine, eliminate add on time.
Something must be done about the diving. The idiot rolling around on the field who looks as though he will never walk again, but suddenly recovers, gives the game an amateurish look.

As for your shot at hockey ... go ahead and play without equipment. Body contact is apart of the game, as is the hard black disc traveling at high enough speed to break bones through equipment. If you want to head the puck without equipment on, more power to you.

Don't forget to add fighting also.

Soccer knowledgeable dudes.

What mistakes did Germany make ?
I think they took their opponents too lightly, did not respect them enough and it cost the Germans. What do you guys think ?

In the US game. I think the Serb goalie totally muffed the first US goal. should have come out a bit more, especially seeing his teammate coming to help out. US was lucky to pull out a tie in my opinion.

The referee in the Germany-Serbia match was an absolute joke, talk about trying to get yourself on TV, 5 yellow cards in the first half and sending off Klose was insane!! and this guy is suppose to be from one of the top leagues in the world La Liga. Apparently this nutter last season gave 11 red cards in 17 matches, FIFA has a lot of explaining to do for picking this clown. On the flipside the Uzbek referee for the England-Algeria match was top notch.

And I think you mean the Slovene not Serb goalie against the US.

You must be referring to me, Hayward.

Serbian can lose to Ghana, they can even lose to Australia and not qualify; but a loss to Germany and their supporters will eat them alive.

I'm really surprised that Handanovic allowed those two goals against the USA, I picked him to be the star goalie of this tournament.

England need a midfield director (a Sneidjer or a Pirlo) Gareth Barry could be that player but he wont get the chance as long as Lampard and Gerrad are both on the pitch.

Raymond Domenech is the best coach in the world, his embargo of Serie A players is wildly successful.

Yes, I agree the ref is to blame but then what was Klose thinking? Having already picked up a cheap yellow card, he decided to challenge Stankovic from behind in the middle of the field. However, Germany actually played very well after Klose was sent off, beside giving up the winning goal. Another bone head play was by the big Man U defender Vidic, using his hand instead of his head! After the penalty missed by Podolski, Germany seemed to lose the momentum from then on. Kudos to Serbia for their solid defense and for exploiting the German left side. Krasic simply ran the make-shift leftback Badstuber ragged. Poor kid he was actually a central defender.

Another bad refereeing was the disallowed goal in the USA-Slovenia game. If there was any fouls, it would've been a penalty call as we saw in the replay at least 3 American players were held inside the box. Still give credit to the Americans for the comeback to tie the game. On the ohter hand, England was simply, shall we say, uninspired in the game against Algeria. Capello should better drop Barry and Heskey, start Crouch and Joe Cole, and move Gerrard back in the middle for next game.

Where do you start with the problems with England? they looked completely disinterested and flat, and what is Capello thinking having Lampard and Gerrard out there at the same time!!! they both play the exact same position, England simply dont have a defensive midfielder, they can only dream of a Pirlo. Now the next set of matches will be interesting as to which Algeria shows up, the lifeless one that played Slovenia or the one that showed some initiative against England.
