I willingly admit I do not know soccer, but ga-damn even I can tell the WC has been a dud so far.
If this is the showcase event of the sport, fans should feel ripped off. The many empty seats do not surprise me.

Greece, what I saw of the early game, seemed to be more interested in starting a civil war within the team then the game.

In the game that just ended after Argentina scored they, except for an occasional charge, played keep away and Nigeria let them.

Add to yesterday's pair of ties, especially that zero-zero game, wooo exciting. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Anyway, it is a world event and I will continue to watch.

The game I have been waiting for is up next.
England vs USA. Go England

World Cups always start off slow, i would not call it a dud. Mexico deserved better in there game and the Di Santos kid was great. Well done for SKorea winning a game and leading there group. Veron looked pathetic today, can't imagine we will see him again in this tournament. Nigeria had no goalscorers so it was always going to be a tough battle.

I have a funny feeling about USA vs England match, I get the sense the Americans are not intimidated by the english in the least.

I'm as big a fan of Futbol as there is in the world and you all know it. The World Cup always stars slow because you have 32 teams in the first round. You have to deal with Powerhouses playing New Zealand, North Korea and other barely-qualifying nations.

This is why the Euro Cup is always more fun to watch. It's straight to a round of 16 with concentrated talent. All the players will tell you its tougher and better to win the Euro.

Once the World Cup gets to the round of 16 it becomes epic. The Powerhouses are all there (maybe?!) and some teams will surprise in terms of how far they get.

I had no idea you were a soccer fan at all until today.
So you are a big soccer fan ... what do tip the scale at 400/450 lbs ? ... lol Alright, alright dumb joke/poke.

If, as you say, it is a power vs an also ran then I think it should be something like when Canada meets Germany or Italy in hockey.

USA and England is a 1-1 draw. America played well and perhaps should have won.
No, it was a sad affair for both sides. Haphazard football from both sides. USA only got a draw because of a horrendous error by the goalie.

Errors are a part of the game, not an excuse for their consequences. They happen all the time by all kinds of field players, too.

At least it was not the referee's error!

You know what I meant, namely that the USA side did not play very well.

I watched about 7-8 minutes of the first half and the whole 2nd half. England had a large territorial advantage as well as more legitimate scoring chances. One in particular should have been an easy goal but the Brit shot it right at the goalie. U.S. was lucky to get the tie.

Wow. Very unconvincing. Argentina is just Tevez and Messi. They might be better off starting without Messi in order to force the rest to play as a team. Right now they look like they've got only one plan, get the ball to Lionel. Nigeria was unlucky and did a good job of keeping on top of Messi. If Argentina brings this game against S.K., they'll lose.

Oh, and it's Riquelme's absence that is the most felt in this team. They've got no one pulling the strings.
Nigeria had no finishers...they went forward but just couldn't finish. Their goalie was great.

A side like England should thump the USa by at least two goals. Heskey missed a good chance for England but the Americans hit the post late in the game. The result was correct in my opionion and i don't think England dominated the second half.

I'm picking the Netherlands to go all the way.
(That stadium 'sound' will remind them of bees pollinating their tulips back home!!!

What is that sound exactly ? There is another thread about this very topic.
How is it that it is constant through out the game ?

This should answer your question Iron head

This is the first and hopefully the last major football tournament that South Africa hosts, I am so tired of that annoying sound, and the claim that its part of South African culture is insane. Where is the superb African singing, the Dutch brass band, the South American drums and the English singing "Rule Britannia!!!

2014 and the wonderful Brazilian samba music cant come fast enough IMO.

Maybe FIFA will come to their senses and ban the vuvuzela after the initial round robin games.
