The rumours of Denmarks premature death are not true. Wishful thinking, eh?

You just want to eliminate all danes.
My mistake, actually I'll be rooting for the Danes.....

We need all the help we can get. LOL.

Bookmakers are giving odds: 2.10 Denmark win 3.20 tie 3.40 Japan win

If Chile ties or wins tomorrow and Switzerland beats Honduras, as expected, they fall.

Netherlands are in in Group E and neither Japan nor Denmark are big fish. And Brazil and Portugal are both in in Group G unless Ivory Coast can beat North Korea by at least 10 more goals than Portugal can score against Brazil.... I would not take that bet no matter what odds I am offered.

If Korea wins Saturday, what does it take to get Korea and Japan to play? Asia will be turned on its head.
They are on opposite sides of the bracket. They won't meet unless they both get to the final game (extremely doubtful to say the least)

At this point, the WC is all set to be a competitive and ratings disaster. With the triumph of the minnows in the group stage, you now have Argentina, England and Germany set up to quickly eliminate each other in 1 grouping, leaving only 1 of these giants in the competition. In another grouping, Brazil will probably eliminate Spain in the next round and then face the Netherlands. The remaining 2 groups feature only Portugal as an A-list team. 1 entire new grouping is composed of only minnows.

Most of the upcoming games will be of interest only to fans from the particular countries involved.

I think you are missing a point.

The Latin American teams have always played a much more entertaining, fluid and, I believe, superior game... el jogo bonito, for which Brazil and, to a lesser extent, Argentina have always been famous.

But the other Latino teams have improved vastly over the past few years with the same approach and style and have caught up to and, I think, surpassed the European teams and style. The reason that Spain and Portugal have become powerhouses is largely due to the fact they have copied or adapted that style.

It is no accident that Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Mexico and, perhaps, Chile (they are playing a I write this) have qualified. And I predict that in the future the Europeans will become the underdogs to the Latinos... unless, of course, they change their style.

Chile, too!

As a matter of fact, all the Latin American teams except Honduras qualified.

I think that proves the point I was making...

Well said Perry, South American football has always been the best in my opinion. The minnows have earned the right to be at this stage of the tournament, why would anyone feel sorry for France and Italy. They could not get the job done, they are both ageing teams living on past glories. England was also lucky being in a weak group, I don't understand why people had them as one of the favourites.

I'm a big fan of South American football, particularly Brazil. I'm also a big fan of the minnows except when it comes to Brazil.
Does anyone remember in the 1990 World Cup when Cameroon shocked the world by Defeating Argentina and Romania.
then went into the next round where they beat Colombia, and then put one helluva scare into England in the quarter finals losing in extra time 3-2 on a penalty

Every single World Cup that has been played on Non European soil have been won by either Brazil or Argentina. I think this one will be no different.

The Jubalani ball favors the short, slick passing game of the South American teams. Freekicks and long shots have been shockingly non existant in this world cup, because the ball does not curve or swerve. Teams who can basically pass the ball into the net will have a huge advantage.

I also was very impressed with Japan. They have tremendous discipline and perseverance... real Samurai! And Honda is impressive! Those freekick goals were pure Zen. IMO their match with Paraguay will be very entertaining and an interesting contrast of different styles. The odds makers don't think so but they could very well beat Paraguay.

To the extent that Korea is like Japan and Uruguay is like Paraguay, that too will be a fun game to watch.

Two yesterday by Japan, one today by Spain. And two or three others that I can't remember right now...

I have watched most of the matches and I have seen a lot of bend...

Yep 2 by Japan yesterday, 1 by Korea (I think). The Asian teams have seemed to figure them out the best so far. Spain did not score a free kick. But the other few you remember have been non traditional freekick goals. They had to hit them low and hard, and they actually took a bounce before going into the net.

But really, freekicks as we remember them from previous tournaments are probably not going to show up in this tournament.
