I agree that ze Germans were the better team and probably would have won anyway, but the disallowed goal totally changed the complexion of the match and really took the wind out of England's sails and made what should/would have been a close match into a laugher.I thought about that point before posting. While one can never say what would have happened if an incident had taken place differently, the Germans were exposing England's defence brutally right from the start of the game. My feeling is that they would have taken the lead again anyway. If the disallowed goal had been a go-ahead score, then England could have concentrated on defence and in that case, maybe it would have been a decisive game-changer.
I take it more of an elegant tribute, a la Bowie, rather than tongue-in-cheek a la Osterberg?Si Signor, but I'm not feeling tragic like I'm Marlon Brando. I'm just pissed.
I've watched countless soccer games to know that you are absultely right on that point. Teams 1 or even 2 down, get back into games, steal a bit of momentum and the game can change shape completely as the other side panicks and/or retreats. Can you imaging the panick in the German side if England had been awarded 2 goals in the space of 2 minutes, as they should have been.If you watch soccer a lot you know that one goal change the complication of the match. I'm not going to be as naive as to say England would have won. The Germans destroyed our back four. But that goal should have stayed and it could have changed the entire match.

Thank you Don.....but I have a question.I take it more of an elegant tribute, a la Bowie, rather than tongue-in-cheek a la Osterberg?
You, Sen'or Von, are Leonardo's Notebook!
As per tomorrow, mi Espan'a takes on CR7 and his crew. One way or another there's going to be a lot of dead fish.
They'll mostly end up in paella all over the little bistros of las Ramblas.
Viva La Furia Roja!!
I agreed with pretty much else you had to say. Disagree strongly with that particular point and that's based on watching hundreds if not thousands of games, this side of the pond. Momentum is often everything in a game and 2 quick goals by England would have caused Germany to play differently and raised England's game. I would however had agreed with you if you had said that England would have found a way of losing anyway.England was soundily beaten by the Germans, the disallowed goal made no difference on the game.
As you know, Sergio Ramos is the right-back for Real Madrid and I'm a devoted Barca Cul'e. So long as Ramos does his job for the La Furia Roja, I will keep my comments to a discreet level of support.Thank you Don.....but I have a question.
What's with all the acne on Sergio Ramos's back?
