Last I checked they still have a couple in highway rest stops. I was at the one on 400 south of Parry Sound this summer. (but I don't think that would qualify as GTA)I always liked Licks as well, to bad they went out of business.
Too much filler in those things for me. I'm a meat purist, meaning the only way I like my burger is fresh ground beef (brisket for example), balled then squished and cooked on a flat top grill. Seasoned only with kosher salt and cooked medium rare. Maybe add a couple toppings like cheese, bacon and avocado. Not too many though, as I like to taste the beef.Any Lick's location will do!
As of May 2016 Lick's closed up everythingLast I checked they still have a couple in highway rest stops. I was at the one on 400 south of Parry Sound this summer. (but I don't think that would qualify as GTA)
There is one at Warden and Eglinton. The burgers are tasty but a bit small. As of May 2016 Lick's closed up everything
There were apparently 4 locations still running but they are indy at this point
Steer in was okay at best, but the guys that worked there always weirded me out, and gold star is disgusting.
Uh oh... now you went and done set off his "Cackler" Alarm. What? Ya still sulking cause I called you on the fact your post was kind of useless to the thread? get over it and move on.
Apache is a nostalgic place because I went to high school nearby and still live in Etobicoke.I find it rather amusing how many burger chains come & go
Hero, 5 Guys, Union, South St, Priest
Its like every couple of years there is a new "it" place that quickly fades away
It's almost like the Harvey's syndrome (new place starts off strong, then food quality gets worse each year as profits and clients dwindle)
I still like Wendy's quite seriously
Used to like Lick's as well
The Works is only place I consider to be premium in chain format
If I had to pick a one off place that makes great burgers, Troy's in Milton or Sonny's in Brampton both are good (certainly better than Apache who gets alot of buzz)
Bymark, are you referring to Chef Michael McEwen's joint? Yes he makes outstanding burgers. But I prefer the Steak Queen Homeburger at 1/3 of the price.

I think you hit that nail right on the headApache is a nostalgic place because I went to high school nearby and still live in Etobicoke.
Adam, it was YOU that I was thinking about above, who recommended Grillway and I tried it once. Good burger and food with more variety than Apache. For a grilled burger you can't go wrong with Grillway at Runnymede & Annette, or Magoos on Dundas (just east of Royal York). Apache on Dundas in Etobicoke is also good and seems to be almost identical to C & Dubbs just inside the Mississauga border. They both have the same killer onion rings, toppings, and meat quality (Apache wins out though because of the atmosphere).
For a griddle "smash" style burger then I'm afraid Burger's Priest really does still win in my books. If you ask me, I think the crazy days of smashing beef on a griddle are coming to an end... Sure it makes for a juicy burger with a nice crust, but these places rarely ever season their meat so they usually require tons of toppings for any real taste.
I think an honorable mention should go to Weber's on Highway 11 on the way to cottage country.. I understand it's not GTA, but just ordering at Weber's is an event worth attending in itself.
I went there after hobbying one night. It was late (or early in the morning). A weird fight broke out between two customers. The guys behind the counter had to break it up and eject the guys lol.I think you hit that nail right on the head
Nostalgia works wonders
Yonge St., from the top of Hogg's Hollow to north of Lawrence has about 6 places. The Burgers Priest.
Period.
And if you're a Big Mac fan, order their "High Priest".
It's awesome!
