Are you serious? They were laughing at him period. NATO funding was one of the items he was pushing them on and they laughed behind his back.
If you prefer to bury your head in semantics that's you're choice.
In 2016 only a handful of NATO members were meeting their commitments. By the time Trump left office in 2020, a few more upped their commitments.

Not sure where you get your "24 of 32" meeting their 2% but I think that's way off as of a year ago...

Doesn't matter when he left office, he made that demand of 5% in January of this year. Even the U.S. doesn't spend that according to NATO figures.

I said they were laughing at him. It was the NATO summit. They were put on the spot and called out for not living up to their NATO commitments.

He called them out when he was in office, and wants them to up their spending now. A couple of countries have already committed to spending at least 5%.

What part of this confuses you?

Or do you just like someone else paying your way all the time?

And if they could, it would just slow things down. Trump said if you don't sign we are out. This war has been lost for over a year. Not admitting to that fact just means more dead people, more destruction and more money down the drain.

The speculation that Trump is a stooge for Putin is not sound at all, to put it politely. Trump is president of the most powerful country on the planet, connected to the wealthiest and most powerful people on the planet. And he's taking payolla from a second rate power to go against American interests?
Aside from economic interests, if the National Security appartus or intelligence agencies got even a sniff of that he would be dead. They monitor their leaders constantly to make sure.

Having said that, U.S. and Europe courted Ukraine into working them into the E.U. and eventually into NATO, U.S. made this inention explicit. This is what precipitated the invasion. Within the first week or so of the war, Zelensky and Putin had a deal worked in principle and Boris went to Ukraine to "talk" him out of it. Now that the war is unwinnable, Trump is making Zelensky look like the bad guy and throwing him under the bus to save face for the U.S.

Nato and us courti g Ukraine had nothing to do with Trump. He was against nato and wanted to pull out of it...the best way to end the war without anymore blood shed is peace talks...that's the leat expensive too. Us will have to spend at least trillions of dollars to defeat Russia and also risking a nuclear war which is gonna cost another trillion. Dealing with the fall out if let's sat us survives...us is Ukrains easy way out.

I'm not saying Trump was involved with that. I'm saying that he got stuck with the present day reality of it, and now he's backtracking the U.S. out of it for obvious reasons. You don't know if he really wants out of NATO or he's trying to pressure Europe into more support because the U.S. is focusing their resources towards China and that entire region.
Personally it would be insane to pull out of NATO, they would lose all their leverage in that part of the world, tha vacuum would be filled by somebody else, different alliances arise, not to their benefit.

Well one thing is a fact
..US is carrying the brunt of the finances of NATO. He may want to opt out if most members don't even honor their pledges.

USA should pay the entire cost of NATO. It is a tool for their empire, and the weapons they force the vassals to buy are overpriced by a factor of 5.
