My kid was out grocery shopping today and shelves were empty.

Yes food is grown here but eventually trucks will stop moving and by eventually I mean soon but I hope I'm wrong.
Not sure where you ate living but mine are full incuding specials on overstock.

This was today at my local Walmart. The supply chain is struggling hard right now. Won't take much for it to start to Crack.

I'm not saying we're going to run out of food. I'm saying transporting will become the problem. Fuel prices are going up and shortages in the UK.

I'd rather be ready than not.

OP, How can you stock up on food for 2 yrs ?
Grain will last 30 years if not forever. Beans and peas will last about 8. Most canned goods will last about 2 it seems.

Plus the freeze dried long term food supplies. 1 pail=1 month at 2000 calories a day. 25 year shelf life.

I've been telling folks about empty shelves for weeks now. Nobody believed me that this was a problem. Now they're texting me all the time saying wow you were right.

2000 calories a day is too low if you get out of bed. I.e. physically active (chores) or if you like to fool around on the computer.
Probably need 2500 on average if you want to have a life, maybe 3000 if you really want to go out and do stuff.

You're the only one supporting your narrative.

Maybe you're just lonely and the empty shelves are a metaphor for how you feel inside.

Any chance we can you can beta test your plan for us. A two year isolation test would be sufficient

Here
The irony of someone who moves off to the boonies for survival only to die of a heart attack or a stroke that could have been treated if they lived in a more accessible place.

The supply chain will be fine. To panic over that would be to pull a Justin Twoplanes when he paniced over the Ft Mac fires and said we needed 10 billion dollar surplus for 3 years when 1: it was just a glitch and 2: by the time the money would take effect, the economic effects would have been done and 3: I doubt he really meant it and was just using it as an excuse to end up over doubling his goals with no intent to ever stop. I was rather shocked that neither other major party called him out for panicking over nothing.

Great, now I am in the mood for baby back ribs.
Baby, the other white meat
Baby, it's whats for dinner.
There is a huge population of cats and dogs in the city don't think we'll starve to death anytime soon

When there were runs on TP in Australia I was hearing about it.

Not a peep about empty stores till this thread. Considering the sources I don't think I'll worry much.
Once in a while Wally World is short of an item or two, but I'll put to Walmart being Walmart over some sort of systemic problem. Never noticed the problem elsewhere.
Not going to panic because someone forgot to stock the cerial isle and it's only 50% full or they are out of 4 packs of AW rootbeer but loads of every other diabetes drink.

Honey is said to last indefinitely. Pressure canning some types of meat will be shelf stable for up to ten years. Freeze drying food will also make it last a long time, but foods with high fat content don’t do as well. Also, water filtration and purification tablets don’t always last indefinitely, so it’s good to check on them, if you own any of them.

it’s less of a concern that scarcity will become desperation in rural areas… the cities may become chaotic. If it’s turning the way of civil unrest, you can bet that country folk can and will defend themselves.

cash won’t mean much if things get to the next level.
I think they'll be coming to the city to stock up.

They got no chance against city folk that really wanna harm them.

None of that will matter when the nuclear plants explode, or the gas pipelines.

For those of you reading this thread and starting to get worried, relax none of these things are going to happen, at least in our lifetime.
The only thing that could bring us to that level would be an all at nuclear war and that is still unlikely at this time.

You guys must not be seeing what's happening at all the ports and ship back ups.

It's not end of civilization but it's about to get real hard to get shit.
