Point is, I don’t think I would want to survive. Post-apocalyptic world? Yeah, count me out.
It's one of those "I'd never do X" until the situation happens and X becomes very plausible.
They have found that when shit hits the fan oddly enough people become very keen on surviving. At least that is what the boffins who looked into it found.

Yeah, I’m not going out of my way to survive unless there’s light at end of the tunnel. At least I won’t have to suffer through another crappy Leafs season
There is your light at the end of the tunnel, no more crappy Leafs seasons.

Well, depending on the severity of SHTF, I’m pretty much good (for a bit) up until probably a 7-10 level event (out of 10). I got no kids at this point so no real reason to try and make things better, if SHTF.

I'm sure you guys know more then them.

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best or don't. I'll be fine and so will my family if it happens.

If it goes to shit it just means we going to rob the rich as there will be no system to protect them anymore.

Meh. I used to buy Inyo the survivalist/frontier mindset. It’s important to be prepared if the world is going to end, right?

Then I watched the stock market crash abd banks steal huge swaths of subdivisions from people in the US and there was no collapse of society, and these were people homes they were evicted from.

Nothing happened to society then.

Few years later, a 2week COVID lockdown turned into almost two years. Jobs were lost people were suddenly locked up.

Society didn’t collapse as predicted.

Then the US capitol got rushed and desecrated.

Society still didn’t collapse.

Makes you wonder what it will take?

And yet the markets are not panicing. Some news reports which to be honest you probably didn't read beyond the click bait title or if you did, you just skimmed through without understanding. But I guess you know more than experts who spend their lives pouring over the data about the economy and backed by massive gobsmacks of researchers.

Also from the article
"Indeed, the IMF downgraded its 2021 US growth forecast on Tuesday by one percentage point, the most for any G7 economy. The IMF cited supply chain disruptions and weakening consumption — which itself has been partially driven by supply chain bottlenecks such as a lack of new cars amid the computer chip shortage."

This doesn't seem like a stock up on bread bullets and beans scenero to me. Oh noes 1% won't something please think of the children.

As for the Trucker shortage, that is mostly a UK thing, get rid of the Poles and Romanians you rely on to keep wages cheap and that happens. We have been undergoing a shortage here but that's been going on for years. Not enough to start having to shoot Mutant Zombie Bikers to protect your bug out location.

Oh and the rest of the article
"
Others are much more optimistic on the supply chain outlook.
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said Monday that these supply chain hiccups will fade quickly.
"This will not be an issue next year at all," Dimon said during a conference held by the Institute of International Finance, CNBC reported. "This is the worst part of it. I think great market systems will adjust for it like companies have.""

Like seriously, did you even read the article because your reaction has nothing to do with the content of the article. Or perhaps you figured nobody would actually check the source.

So you have made all these efforts for a huge nothing burger but we are all a bunch of stupid ignorant cunts worthy of your sarcasm.

Also posting stuff that doesn't support your position is both insulting to your audience and doesn't put you in a good light.
Going to a bugout location and packing 2 years of supply won't make cars and products with computer chips any less expensive.

I remember when Peak Oil was the big worry. Even the slightest looking into that would show it to be a nothing burger but it didn't stop the survivalist crowd from going full potato on it.
As they say, if you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

what do you consider a collapsed society. Cuz the instances those happened - society collapsed, it just got back together. Do you mean the end of democracy?

If so don’t forget the French Revolution and the monarchy . keep that wealth gap growing and we will see what happens. I’m sure they thought monarchy would never end either

There's a really easy way to disable all of the Google social media sites, (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest), all at once. You just need to advance the computer or phone's internal clock, like changing todays date to January 14, 2822. Imagine the panic that would ensue if the people glued to their cellphones had to actually speak to other human beings. A very simple trojan virus embedded in a viral post might be able to do that. Very few other Internet sites would be affected.

I'm cautiously optimistic as the pandemic shifts to the endemic phase in a few months, things can only get better and supply chain will recover.

Inspired by the 80s synth pop thread...

Looks like the supply chain is getting ready to collapse.

Who's ready? What did you do to get ready? Got your bug out location picked if you get forced out of your home as the masses panic?

I'm sitting on 2 years of food
What does a two year supply of food weigh and how often do you need to replenish it? Just asking. And I prefer sitting on a chair myself, just saying...

I don’t know where you are shopping but I’ve been to two grocery stores this week, both were out of cilantro.
My local Wal-mart has some shelves bare but, it's Cornhole and it's Wal-Mart, it's a Tuesday. Been like that before Covid
Everywhere else it's fine.
Also I wouldn't call not being able to get Cilantro to be a "store 2 years of food and get out of dodge" type survival situation.

Yep, still waiting. Been having 0 problems getting anything.
Trucks getting stopped at the border. Media reports of price increases. Empty shelves popping up all over. I'd prefer to be wrong but I'm ready when I'm not.

I'm really not understanding the angry defiance in wanting to make sure you're okay if something happens.

Kinda stupid to think that a fragile system can't collapse. But whatever.

I'm not sure that would do anything at all. What would changing the date accomplish?
