Brendan Gallagher has a broken jaw and will not play for the Montreal Canadiens in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference First Round against the Philadelphia Flyers at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Friday (7 p.m. ET; NBSCN, CBC, SN, TVAS, NBCSP), or in Game 7 if it is necessary.

The Canadiens forward was injured with 5:08 left in the third period of a 5-3 win in Game 5 on Wednesday when he was cross-checked by Flyers defenseman Matt Niskanen during a puck battle.

Gallagher finished the game but will need to have surgery. He will leave Toronto, the hub city for the Eastern Conference.

1) "Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Matt Niskanen has been suspended for one game for cross-checking Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher during Game 5 of the teams' First Round series in Toronto on Wednesday, Aug. 19,"

One game, eh. If that was Kadri, he would have been suspended for the rest of the playoffs.

2) Maybe I shouldn't be but I am surprised that the Islanders (without JT) beat the Capitals (with Oveckin, Carlson (maybe injured?) and the guy who loves doing the chicken wings).

David Perron and Ryan O'Reilly didn't hold back their thoughts on why the St. Louis Blues were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs on Friday.

"It didn't seem like our energy was coming from everyone," Perron said.

O'Reilly said, "At times we looked like a junior team out there the way we were turning the puck over, not playing the right way, and it came back to bite us."

Stu Cowan: Canadiens' first-round exit shouldn't really be celebrated
While future is looking brighter with young stars like Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi, this isn’t really progress for GM Marc Bergevin.

TORONTO — The last time before this that the Canadiens were in the NHL playoffs, they were eliminated in the first round and former captain Max Pacioretty was almost in tears after the final game at Madison Square Garden.

Three years ago, the Canadiens were a good team that finished first in the Atlantic Division during the regular season with a 47-26-9 record, but didn’t play well in the playoffs, losing to the New York Rangers in six games while Pacioretty failed to score a goal.

I like BOS

Montreal gave Philly a run for their money and the Flyers didn't look great - lack of scoring from their top 5.
Meanwhile, Islanders looked like a buzz saw against Washington, and they've advanced in the playoffs each year since Tavares left. I have trouble seeing the Flyers winning this one even though they looked good in March.

Mitch Marner must be playing possum to get traded to a contender as well.
He has 5 goals in 25 career playoff games where Kadri has 6 goals this year alone.
Gabriel Landeskog has no goals this playoffs. Perhaps he's looking to get traded.

The point was you took a portion of Kadr's playoff record. The part where he is excelling and using that to compare with Marner and deducing from that that he should be traded. Further, you're comparing only goals knowing full well Marner is a setup man and a passer not a shooter. Hence his value to play with Matthews or Tavares who are shooters. Kadri also is known more as a shooter. He's playing the same position on the PP as he did with the Leafs. In the slot the prime shooting area. Marner on the PP plays as the setup man.

If you're talking about how much players are paid well that's a different argument. No denying in a Salary cap world return on the dollar is very relevant. Don't blame Marner for how much he's paid. That's on Dubas and the management team. I don't disagree Marner is paid too much relative to other talented players around the league. However, it was signed with term so the plan was as the salary cap goes up it would start looking good or at least better. Unfortunately then covid came and the cap will probably be stuck for a few years.

You're talking like Marner wants to be traded. You honestly believe this? Why would Dubas pay Marner the money and then want to trade him? If that were so then wouldn't he have traded him rather than pay him the money?

Dubas most likely sees Matthews and Marner as a potential unstoppable force. In the likes of Hull and Oates. A superior shooter to play with a superior passer.

There's a good write up on why Leafs PP isn't as good as when they had JVR, Kadri, and Bozak. You would think replacing with Nylander, Tavaras, and Matthews would make the PP much better but it isn't. Marner the setup man had 2 main options. To get the puck to JVR down low who had soft hands or to Kadri in the slot. The PP now is to look for Matthews anyway they can. Very one dimensional. Easier to stop.

If he plays they're in deep doo doo. Look what happened when Reimer played. Whatever happened to Sparks?

Vegas looks like they've got everything but if Sparks ever plays they're toast.
