This thread likely will pinch some nerves of the Nylander fans, but imo this is the best route to take to improve the imbalance between forward and defence talent.
Nylander adds certain elements to an offence core that has proven very good for regular season, but not good enough for playoff success. Whatever advantages he brings in offence are mitigated by his defensive lapses and lazines.
This will no doubt be looked at as biased opinion and I admit that I‘ve never liked how he plays. Biases aside, with over 40 millions tied up for Tavares, Matthews, Marner and Nylander and 4 first round losses in a row, isn't it time to break up this quartet especially there are many holes to fill with the imminent departures of Ceci and Barrie ?
Tavares has no movement clause. Barring a “too good to be true offer” for either Matthews or Marner, Nylander should be the prime candidate if one of the four has to go. As far as I’m concerned, the only reason Dubas would trade Marner instead is because of his promise that “Nylander will not be traded as long as he’s the Leafs GM”.
You can play with words and say that’s not a promise, but to me what’s more pathetic than breaking a promise is to deny that you had made one. Dubas should man up and admit his mistake and do the right thing.
