I was thinking of the same thing but in a different context. What is there is stop the Leafs from signing Crosby, Ovechkin and Toews? Those dudes aren't very busy at the moment. (There's got be some rule to prevent that.) After all, there is no salary cap in the playoffs (the Lightning proved that a couple of years ago)..If Edmonton advances (likely) and Toronto doesn't (again likely), can Austen Matthews play for Oilers ? Its not a trade. He's near end of contract. Can Oilers sign Austen ? Will be a great help to Edmonton. After all there's no salary cap in playoffs. He might as well if TO gets eliminated. I've heard of teams signing other players during the playoffs. I am not aware of any rules that would prevent this from happening. How would the Oilers work Matthews into the lineup ? No I am not drunk.
