Hyman in the Finals
14 goals in 18 games
cap hit 5.5 mill
He was the ideal forecheck, board guy and net front for Matthews.
Leafs are still searching. Bert was the latest iteration.
Some even thought Bunting was the guy ... not even close.

ZH hates Dubas, he didn’t even try to resign him. Hyman wanted to stay in Toronto too.

Thought I'd check out past playoff performances and Gilmour for the Leafs had 35 points in 93, coincidentally his jersey number. Only 4 players have bested 35 points and they are Gretzky, Lemieux, Coffey, Malkin. McDavid this season has 31 and counting but they are playing the defensive juggernaught Panthers in the Finals. Gilmour did it in 21 games. McD has played 18 and at least 4 more. Gilmour also scored 10 goals. McD currently has 5. The all time assist record is 31 by Gretzky. McD has 26 and counting. Lemieux's best is 28. Kucherov 27. Gilmour in 93 had 25 assists.

Gilmour did it in only 3 rounds. I would bet the others did it in 4 rounds.

I wonder if Berube will be able to toughen Marner up

Pretty soon you'll be wanting Nylander gone too.
Plenty already do since the beginning to time.
Weren't you the one who commented Nylander didn't score enough in these playoffs?

Yes but that doesn't mean I want him gone. I'm just comparing the two.
Ok so you're comparing Nylander who scored 3 goals in 4 games to Marner who scored 1 goal in 7 (none in game 6 or 7) and justifying by this comparison that they are both on par. If anything you should have picked Matthews or better yet Tavares to make Marner look better. They both also scored 1 goal but no for some unexplicable reason you chose Nylander to try to boost up Marner. The only conclusion I could see was another failed attempt to bash Nylander.

career playoff stats. Marner is better and plays defence and is on the PK.

That's a different point. The point you made was specifically pertaining to the performance of Marner and Nylander in the 7 game playoff series vs Boston in 2024. Quite frankly you have deep rooted hate for Nylander that you may not even be aware of or in denial.

The hate on Marner reminds me of similar situation back in the nineties, Larry Murphy was the scapegoat for repeated Leafs failures and was repeatedly booed off the ice. Fans wanted to trade him even if their mistresses had to be included, just as badly as fans now want to trade Marner. Murphy was traded to Detroit and helped them to win a couple of cups. He’s one of very few players to have won two cups with two different teams.

Only in Toronto do they boo talent yet praise goonery. I recall the hate Sundin got for turning down a trade to Montreal when the package was Chris Higgins and a late first round pick. Yet crickets when McCabe and Tucker refused to waive their NTC and had to be bought out. let's not forget Tie Domi's shenanigans to get resigned when JFJ didn't want him back.

Number 8 is Murphy. Half of 88 which is Willy's number who Leafs Nation also wants shipped out for a bag of pucks.

Great memories. I'm sure if Willy and Eminem dropped their gloves just once Leafs fans would want a holiday named after them .

Nylander's game has matured significantly over the years. He has also grown stronger and uses that strength. Nylander used to be the whipping boy. He is now appreciated.

Marner doesn't skate as hard as he used to, doesn't play as well defensively as he used to, had zero physical presence and still has zero physical presence and seems to be petulant and is content to coast along. His game has regressed over the years. He has not matured. He used to be appreciated and he is now the whipping boy.

You are entitled to your opinion, but if you take an objective look around you, you will notice that your opinion is of the minority. Just saying.

A lot of people suspect Vegas will ...
A lot of people also suspect Marner will not be traded since he has a no move.
If Leafs wanted to trade Marner they should have done it before his no move kicked in.
They had that window but Shanahan instead turfed Dubas nullifying that window.
Why would Marner not play out the season and take the best bid when it's all said and done as a UFA open to every team.
Or use the highest bid as leverage on the Leafs. Leafs also have the best goal scorer in the entire league.
The best opportunity of any team to pump up his stats. Leafs after all were the second highest scoring team in the regular season. Second only to Colorado who had 1 goal more.

Contractually, you are correct. But Marner is human, with emotions.

He is not very popular right now around here. The majority of fans want him gone. What if he blocks a trade that the fans feel would improve the team? There will be backlash. What is it going to feel like when he and the wife go out grocery shopping or a movie or restaurant and they hear some catcalls or rude comments. What's it going to feel like when he gets booed on the ice, something he's never experienced before. It's close to home, but it may no longer be a friendly place to play. He has emotions. He may beg to get out of town.
