If we're arguing that the Ottawa player deserved a two handed crosscheck to the face because he was acting like a douche or "rubbing salt in the wounds", you need to have enough awareness to realize that this is how the rest of the league sees your argument:
When I say that he deserved "it", I meant he deserved some form of payback, not necessarily a stick to the face.

As well, the Ottawa guy deserved it for being such a douche. The way he slapped it in from a foot away was showing up the Leafs. It was very disrespectful. It reminded of a football incident. I forget the details, but didn't Terrell Owens stand on the opponents logo at mid-field after scoring a touchdown with his arms crossed. The other team went after him. Was it against Dallas?
So you've stated that you are against fighting but think this is okay...Very interesting homerism.

If Rielly didn't like what he did he should have just challenged to a fight. Instead he did a cowardly thing.

For the record..As Ridly was doing his thing I was yelling at the screen ''don't do that''. I'm not a fan of showing your opponent up.

Perron 6 game suspension this year is probably the closest comparable.
Just so happens it was against Ottawa as well.
Bieksa thinks it should be 2 games for Mo.

Fights are going to happen. The fighting that I really hate is the staged fight where the combatants know in advance that they're going to go at it.

If a fight breaks out in the heat of the moment or it is an act of passion, it's understandable. It happens in real life as well. Goons is a different story. Hated the big, bad Bruins, the Flyers, Probert, Domi etc.

So Rielly's actions were egregious, but it was a spontaneous reaction in the heat of the moment. If someone assaulted your child would you wag your finger at them or would you leap into action physically, not really caring how much force you used? I know the situations aren't perfectly analogous but I think you get the drift. Rielly respects and admires the Leaf brand. He showed pride.

If he gets a couple of games, it will be deserved, but he sent a message to his teammates. This is obviously the TSN Turning Point for the Leafs' season. Plan the parade. :ROFLMAO:

It'll be between 3 and 6 but it basically depends on how much whiskey George Parros consumes that morning and what his blood alcohol level is heading into the hearing.
Point really was this was nowhere near the Dale Hunter incident.

Actually you said you wanted fighting gone from the game altogether. Now you're backtracking.

This is why fighting is in the game. To stop cowards like Rielly from checking players in the head.

When they again next year let's see if Rielly does the right thing and drop the gloves with Greig.

My guess he won't that will be left up to some other teammate.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think I said that. I believe I said that IF they wanted to get rid of fighting, it was doable. People were talking how it was not possible and/or it would result in more stickwork etc. and I was countering.

Soccer and football are similar to hockey in that they are fast and physical but you hardly see fighting. But even then, there is the occasional dust up.

Feel free to find my quotes because it was a long time ago.

I wonder what George Parros would have thought of Greig if he was on the ice for Toronto?

Because it happened in Toronto and received humongous attention from both fans and haters, the league office will probably hand out harsher punishment than if it had happened in a small hockey market.

Regardless of the severity of the punishment, if this doesn’t bring out the passion in some of the core players at least for the next few games I don’t know what will. I’m naming Tavares, Nylander and Brodie specifically. Tavares is the least emotional captain of all the captains that I’ve watched since the 70’s. He should step down and hand the captaincy to Rielly and Matthews.

Even though he does not show a lot of emotion, he is a pro's pro and leads by example. He has always worked hard every shift his whole career. He was never the most skilled/flashy guy but he digs and fights for the puck. Unfortunately he's on the downside of his career so his on-ice contributions are as readily noticeable.

However, the other 2 you mentioned would be more than worthy of receiving the "C".

What a bad opinion ^^^.

-the incident did not happen in Toronto but in small market Ottawa
-because it is a Maple Leaf player will not effect the punishment
-the players are not going to become more 'passionate' in the next few games, they are NHL players they are passionate every game
-Tavares stepping down because he doesn't provide 'you" more emotion doesn't mean he's not well-respected among his teammates...he's not stepping down

Morgan Reilly will get suspended a couple of games and the team will accept it and move on.

I would have preferred it wasn't a cross check to the neck but I think Rielly just did that as a reaction to an absolute bullshit unsportsmanlike gesture by Greig. In 11 seasons Rielly has never been suspended so I don't think he should be getting more than 3 games and a fine.
You cannot compare what Hunter did to Turgeon with this incident. Hunter maliciously attacked Turgeon out of sheer frustration at losing. It caused Turgeon to miss several games in the playoffs with a separated shoulder. Hunter was also a serial offender.

I don’t think Reilly was aiming for the head, he was probably aiming for the shoulder or back and missed.

Anyway, you don’t let a 21 year old rookie on a last place team show you up…next time you play you give him another shot.
