A lot of people with really tiny dicks in Leaf-land saying "yeah, but at least we proved we're tough".

Dale Hunter got 21 games for an identical hit on Pierre Turgeon.

If the league has any balls or seriousness about protecting players from cross-checks to the face they'll suspend him for at least 21 games because it was after the whistle and completely unrelated to anything that could be described as a "hockey play".

Reilly didn't even have the balls to fight him, he just snuck up and cross checked him in the head. Neanderthal mentality. The league needs put their foot down on this type of bullshit.
He'll probably be given six games based on the Perron incident.
well said.

Leafs don't need to put a guy in the emergency room to prove a point, they just need to show they give a fuck with a response, just grab the guy's sweater and say "WTF was that you prick!", give him a face wash with the glove and let a scrum ensue.

The guy who hands down suspensions was a Hab, so don't be surprised if Morgan gets 2 games. Reilly has no history of suspensions.

Turgeon was blindsided, he was vulnerable so even more dangerous, the Reily incident was even close to being as dangerous.
2 other factors.

Hunter skated much, much further to get to Turgeon and hit him later after the goal than Rielly.

As well, the Ottawa guy deserved it for being such a douche. The way he slapped it in from a foot away was showing up the Leafs. It was very disrespectful. It reminded of a football incident. I forget the details, but didn't Terrell Owens stand on the opponents logo at mid-field after scoring a touchdown with his arms crossed. The other team went after him. Was it against Dallas?

I’d agree with you if it was a premeditated attack. If this happened in the next game a 15 or longer game suspension would be warranted.

No doubt Rielly would get a suspension and justifiably should, but with any justice system the circumstances and the victim’s provoking behaviour are usually taken into consideration when punishments are handed out. I’d think 3 to 5 games depending on the seriousness of the injury.

What the Ottawa player did was stupid and was rubbing salt on a wound, but he didn’t deserve to get his head smashed. I’m sure Rielly would choose a different form of retaliation had he had more time to react.

I just wish that the other core players would show more passion.

When Rielly returns from whatever suspension he's given, I hope the hometown Leaf crowd gives him a standing ovation on his first shift.

not always sure...

If we're arguing that the Ottawa player deserved a two handed crosscheck to the face because he was acting like a douche or "rubbing salt in the wounds", you need to have enough awareness to realize that this is how the rest of the league sees your argument:

When I say that he deserved "it", I meant he deserved some form of payback, not necessarily a stick to the face.

So you've stated that you are against fighting but think this is okay...Very interesting homerism.

If Rielly didn't like what he did he should have just challenged to a fight. Instead he did a cowardly thing.

For the record..As Ridly was doing his thing I was yelling at the screen ''don't do that''. I'm not a fan of showing your opponent up.

Perron 6 game suspension this year is probably the closest comparable.
Just so happens it was against Ottawa as well.
Bieksa thinks it should be 2 games for Mo.

Fights are going to happen. The fighting that I really hate is the staged fight where the combatants know in advance that they're going to go at it.

If a fight breaks out in the heat of the moment or it is an act of passion, it's understandable. It happens in real life as well. Goons is a different story. Hated the big, bad Bruins, the Flyers, Probert, Domi etc.

So Rielly's actions were egregious, but it was a spontaneous reaction in the heat of the moment. If someone assaulted your child would you wag your finger at them or would you leap into action physically, not really caring how much force you used? I know the situations aren't perfectly analogous but I think you get the drift. Rielly respects and admires the Leaf brand. He showed pride.

If he gets a couple of games, it will be deserved, but he sent a message to his teammates. This is obviously the TSN Turning Point for the Leafs' season. Plan the parade. :ROFLMAO:

It'll be between 3 and 6 but it basically depends on how much whiskey George Parros consumes that morning and what his blood alcohol level is heading into the hearing.
Point really was this was nowhere near the Dale Hunter incident.

Actually you said you wanted fighting gone from the game altogether. Now you're backtracking.

This is why fighting is in the game. To stop cowards like Rielly from checking players in the head.

When they again next year let's see if Rielly does the right thing and drop the gloves with Greig.

My guess he won't that will be left up to some other teammate.
