I agree the Leafs defence isn't good enough to win the cup but Treliving has time this season to make trades.
The Leafs will need more than just minor upgrades on defence, especially if they continue to play as they did tonight. Bertuzzi took an undisciplined penalty, Domi and Liljegren had brutal give aways. All resulted in goals against. I didn’t see Samsonov make any difficult saves. They made the Canadiens look a lot better than they actually are, but as they say, two teams playing lousy always make an entertaining game for their fans.

Poor defence + undisciplined play means Leaf games will be exciting, interesting, and frustrating to watch. The Blue Jays improved their defence in the off season and how exciting were they this year?

Matthews Hattrick 2 games in a row. 27 goals behind Ron Ellis for 4th all-time Leaf career goals.

This is a team that shows it is built for playoff success. A good playoff team needs defense to win. And, as the saying goes, the best defense is a good offense.

At this point, it is clear that the Leafs have the league's best offense, hence the best playoff descent. Matthews on pace for 246 goals

I also think it has a good degree of toughness this year, which I think is necessary for success.

Bertuzzi, Reaves, Domi, Knies and McCabe seem to be providing some grit.

I'm especially liking Bertuzzi.

Matthews seems much more animated than previous years.

It's only been two games but Marner seems a little off, and Nylander (the locker room cancer) is looking strong. Nylander is doing a better job of driving to the net.

I completely underestimated what Ryan Reeves brings to the table. Knocking a guy like Goudreau on his ass screwed them up for a bit. Basically took Faligno and Goudreau out of the game for a bit. Not to mention, you have to think Gaudreau would be weary if Reeves was on the ice again during one of his shifts.

Leaf fans are so sad.
Leafs fans have suffered enough! They need a cup. Toronto is the most important hockey city. Hope the Leafs, or Oilers, can make it all the way this year and truly hope that would end Betman's control of the league. We need to get that anti-canadian out!

Yes, it's Bettman's fault that the Leafs haven't won the cup in almost 60 years. 🙄
I've heard that he's forced them to make bad trades, not draft or develop well, overpay their stars and hire bad coaches. Fuck Bettman.

Don't get me wrong it's not his fault. Yet Bettman's focus always was to sell the game to americans. He took all the revenue generated from canadian team to try to make a team in arizona, fort lauderdale or other obscure US town where no on fucking cares about hockey.

The MLS will soon surpass the NHL as a major sport league. Because the put franchise where people care about soccer. That's it.
